The statement on December 25 stated that considering the recent attacks in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy has deployed guided missile destroyers, including INS Mormugao, INS Kochi and INS Kolkata,... in various areas to maintain deterrence.

The Indian Navy said it was investigating the attack and initial reports suggested it was carried out by a drone.

After the attack, the Pentagon said a drone launched from Iran attacked the MV Chem Pluto in the Indian Ocean. The attack comes as a US-led task force is trying to address similar challenges in the Red Sea.

Responding to the above information, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on December 25 called the US statement "baseless".

At the time of the attack, the MV Chem Pluto had 21 Indian sailors and one foreign sailor on board. The ship is now docked in Mumbai, western India.
