On the afternoon of September 18, the Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province issued a quick report on the accident of the cargo ship An Binh Phat 68.
At 2:10 p.m. this afternoon, the Quang Nam Border Guard's combat duty received information that the cargo ship An Binh Phat 68, while traveling to the coordinates 15°43′N – 10833″E (about 4.5 nautical miles east of the coast of Binh Hai commune, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam), was hit by waves, causing it to tilt and sink completely.
Immediately afterwards, eight crew members on board boarded the life raft and sent out an urgent distress call.
Currently, the area where the ship crashed is experiencing force 6 winds, gusting to force 8, and rough seas. Vehicles from the Quang Nam Provincial Border Guard cannot approach the area where the ship crashed.
It is known that the cargo ship was carrying 4,000 tons of ice, traveling from Thanh Hoa to Quang Ngai when the accident occurred.
