On February 8, the US Marine Corps confirmed that five of its soldiers missing in a military helicopter crash in California on the night of February 6 were killed.
The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter reportedly lost contact and did not land at the US Marine Corps Air Station Miramar as planned on the night of February 6. The helicopter took off from Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas and was headed to Miramar, near San Diego.
San Diego police and the Civil Air Patrol have sent helicopters to join the search effort, but the storm has made it difficult for police helicopters to reach the area.
