Thanh Hoa is currently the province with the third highest electricity consumption demand and accounts for about 10% of the total electricity consumption demand in the North, posing a great demand for developing the power grid system.

The socio-economic picture of the province is on the path of high and fairly even growth in all areas. To achieve such remarkable results, especially in the context of many difficulties and challenges as present, it is impossible not to mention the great contribution of the electricity industry. As an "important infrastructure industry", upholding the mission of "going one step ahead", the electricity industry has been focusing resources on investment in renovation and upgrading to ensure safe and stable electricity supply.
Following the orientation and direction of the group, the Northern Power Corporation and the socio-economic development goals of the province, maximizing all resources, the Thanh Hoa electricity sector always identifies the investment in construction, renovation and upgrading of the power grid as one of the key tasks. Therefore, the power system is invested synchronously and modernly, meeting the needs of agencies, units, enterprises and people, contributing significantly to the task of socio-economic development, soon making Thanh Hoa province a new growth pole, together with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh forming the northern development quadrangle of the country.
Thanh Hoa City Electricity manages and operates 28 22-35kV power lines supplied from 110kV stations (Nui Mot, TP and Tay TP) including 23 22kV lines and 5 35kV lines with a total length of 418.7km of medium voltage lines, a total length of 524.11km of low voltage lines; 1,125 distribution transformer stations (TSAs) with a total capacity of 514,097kVA; with 85,343 customers signing direct electricity purchase contracts.
With the attention and facilitation of Thanh Hoa Electricity Company, many investment projects to upgrade and renovate the power grid have been and are being implemented in Thanh Hoa City. Completing the KFW3 project with a scale of building 10km of new medium voltage lines; 5 overload protection substations; installing 7 sectional circuit breakers to improve power supply reliability; burying 32.9km of low voltage lines. Upgrading medium voltage lines to share the load, connecting the interconnecting circuit (Route 472 E9.9, Route 474E9.1, Route 486E9.1, Route 476E9.1, Route 477E9.27...). Upgrading and converting to 22kV operation 27 35kV substations on Route 371E9.1. Energizing 16 newly built substations to share the load of overloaded substations. Upgrading and replacing 42.8km of low voltage lines; Replace 30 transformers that have been operating for over 20 years; replace old, poor quality equipment such as: lightning arresters, FCO fuses, cable heads, CDs... Invest in building new 110kV stations in the North of the city, 110kV stations in the South of the city along with 22kV output lines to increase the reliability of power supply, and optimize the load sharing circuit for 110kV Nui Mot station and 110kV station in the city.
In recent years, Thanh Hoa has experienced rapid urbanization with many large projects starting and coming into operation. This is both an opportunity and a driving force for development, but also poses many difficulties and challenges for all levels and sectors, including the electricity sector. Mr. Bui Duc Thuan, Director of Thanh Hoa City Electricity, said: “Deeply aware of that, in the coming time, Thanh Hoa City Electricity will continue to improve the efficiency of governance, administration, application of science and technology in management and operation, investment in building a modern and smart power grid step by step... ensuring stable and continuous electricity supply to meet the electricity demand for economic and social development, national security and defense and people's lives, contributing to soon turning Thanh Hoa City into a smart, civilized and modern city”.
Bim Son - Ha Trung Town Power Company was established on January 1, 2023, based on the merger of Bim Son Town Power Company and Ha Trung Power Company. The unit is currently managing and operating the grid assets including: 20 22kV and 35kV medium voltage lines with a total length of 426.76km; 534 substations with a total capacity of 207,041 MVA; 675,279 km of low voltage grid.
The area and power supply radius are wide, while the human resources are thin, the load in the management area increases on average by 7 - 9% annually. In particular, there is a large difference in the current infrastructure of the power grid between the two administrative areas; the medium and low voltage power grid in Ha Trung district still has many problems, has not been invested synchronously according to the 5S criteria and stabilized power supply, affecting the implementation of power loss indicators, power supply reliability, and has not fully met the needs of production, consumption, socio-economic development goals, and people's daily life. Meanwhile, Bim Son - Ha Trung Town Power Company is the second largest unit in the province (after Thanh Hoa City Power Company) in terms of medium voltage transmission lines; the unit has the second largest power consumption output with 110kV customers in the province (after Nghi Son Town Power Company).
This reality places great demands on the investment in construction, renovation and upgrading of the power grid in the management area. Director of the Bim Son - Ha Trung Town Electricity Department Nguyen Quang Hung said: “Based on the existing capacity of the power grid, the unit has proactively developed a plan and a list of expected investments, renovations and upgrades of the medium to low voltage power grid in the spirit of “being one step ahead” to maximize investment efficiency. All investment, upgrade, renovation and major repair items of the power grid to ensure safe, stable and continuous power supply, especially during the hot season, must be completed before March 31 every year”.
Since the beginning of the year, the unit has completed a number of investment projects to renovate, upgrade and repair the power grid such as: Project to prevent power grid overload, improve power quality; Major repair of 35kV medium voltage line to ensure power supply in hot season, reduce incidents and improve power supply reliability; Major repair of 0.4kV low voltage line to ensure power supply in hot season, improve power quality; Improve power supply reliability of the regional medium voltage grid; Regularly repair 0.4kV low voltage line to ensure power supply in hot season, improve power quality, reduce losses; Regularly repair and replace transformers, rotate machines to increase capacity of substations. Total investment is tens of billions of VND.
Currently, the unit is working with the Project Management Board of Thanh Hoa Electricity Company to implement a number of investment projects to renovate and upgrade the power grid according to the 2025 plan. The project to prevent power grid overload and improve power quality in 2025 has completed investment preparation procedures with the scale of additional construction of 9 transformer stations; new construction, renovation and upgrading of the 0.4kV power grid with a length of 15.6km. The project to build a 35kV double-circuit output line to supply power to Zone A - Bim Son Industrial Park with a double-circuit length of 4.5km is preparing to hand over the site for construction. The project to improve the reliability of power supply of the regional medium-voltage grid in 2025 has basically completed construction, expected to be energized in June 2024. The total investment is about more than 20 billion VND.
Along with that, the unit continues to improve the work of planning investment in construction, major repairs, regular repairs with the right focus, optimization, savings, high efficiency to prevent overload, reduce losses, and improve the reliability of power supply. Speed up the implementation progress for approved construction and major repair investment items, put them into operation and operation earlier than the set schedule. Review and standardize data on medium-voltage lines and low-voltage grids in communes that have not been invested in renovation to prepare well the conditions, be ready and timely when capital is available. Focus on inspection and supervision of the implementation of processes and regulations; apply science and technology to management and operation such as: flying flycam to check equipment on the line, thermal cameras, applying technical innovations to improve labor productivity...
Not only focusing resources on investing in construction, renovation and upgrading of the power grid, Thanh Hoa electricity industry has been making efforts to synchronously deploy solutions and plans, focus on human and material resources, proactively respond promptly if any incidents occur to ensure the goal of operating the power grid safely - economically - stably - reliably. In the context of many difficulties in power supply, the North is entering the hot season, causing the national electricity consumption and peak capacity of the power system to increase, at times setting new records, the electricity industry needs to join hands, raise awareness of using electricity economically, safely, effectively, and protect the safety of the power grid corridor of the whole community.
