Accelerate the standardization of personal tax codes and synchronize citizen identification numbers

The Tax Department said that it has currently queried individual taxpayer information with the national population database for about 70% of the total tax codes that the tax authority is managing.

The tax sector is continuing to coordinate with the police to promote the query of taxpayer information to complete the use of citizen identification codes as tax codes, creating an important foundation for deploying online public services to serve people and businesses, contributing to promoting the development of digital government, digital economy, and digital society.

The project "Developing the application of population data, identification and electronic authentication to serve national digital transformation in the period of 2022 - 2025, with a vision to 2030" (referred to as Project 06) is an important breakthrough project in the overall national digital transformation program, a revolution in the context of digital transformation gradually penetrating into daily life, posing urgent requirements to replace previous manual administrative procedures, ensuring convenience, speed and superiority in the context of Vietnam's increasingly deep integration with the world.

Implementing the direction of the General Department of Taxation and the Provincial People's Committee, in recent times, the Quang Nam Tax Department has resolutely promoted solutions to convert tax codes according to personal identification codes, synchronizing tax data with the national population database.

Specifically, it has proactively coordinated with the police and provincial Social Insurance agencies to exchange information between the tax database and the national population database to query information on identification codes corresponding to tax codes.

Over the implementation period, the tax sector has been able to query individual taxpayer information with the national population database. As of May 3, 2024, the Tax Department has reviewed 163,568/163,763 individual tax codes, reaching a rate of 99.8%. Of which, up to 101,079 tax codes after being reviewed matched the national population database, reaching a matching rate of 61.7%.

The Tax Department's leaders said that, with the view that people are the center of digital transformation, and smart mobile devices are the main means of people in the digital world, in order to support taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations in the most convenient way, in the spirit of the direction of the General Department of Taxation, the Tax Department has deployed the provision of electronic services for taxpayers through expanding the eTax application on the web platform to the eTax application on the mobile device platform (eTax Mobile).

At the same time, Quang Nam Tax Department also coordinated with the Provincial Police to support the implementation of integrating electronic tax services eTax Mobile, eCaNhan with the VneID application according to Project 06.

Accordingly, individuals can use their electronic identification account to log in to the eTax Mobile and iCaNhan applications; or access the VneID application in the tax section to look up information and pay taxes.

According to the leader of the Provincial Tax Department, the unit determined that implementing the review and standardization of personal tax codes is an important task to complete the synchronization of tax data with the national population database and to clean up and unify the use of identification codes as tax codes as prescribed in the Tax Administration Law No. 38 of 2019.

Hopefully, with this responsible cooperation, in the coming time, the Tax Department will focus on strengthening coordination with the police and social insurance agencies to collect information for the remaining tax code cases, and contact taxpayers to self-standardize tax registration information.
