New coach of Thang Long Warriors Club wants to win every match in VBA 2023 basketball tournament

In last year’s VBA season, Thang Long Warriors disappointed when they stopped at the group stage for the first time. Previously, the capital’s basketball representative won the championship in its first year of establishment (VBA 2017). This year, Thang Long Warriors put their trust in new coach Chris Daleo, who has over 25 years of coaching experience and also led the Thai team to 2 SEA Games silver medals.

“My coaching philosophy is to put players in the right position, helping them to develop their strengths. I believe that communication is the key to success. Since people do not share the same language or culture, we need to try harder to understand each other. In VBA 2023, I want to win every match. In addition, I also want the audience to understand every movement, and the spirit the team is trying to create,” Coach Chris Daleo shared.

The remarkable foreign duo of Thang Long Warriors Club

Thang Long Warriors Club’s goal of returning to the VBA championship race is also reinforced by the players who just participated in the 32nd SEA Games, namely Justin Young, Dang Thai Hung, Nguyen Van Hung and Le Hieu Thanh. Besides the experienced pillars, the team’s strength comes from the young players who are in their prime, such as Tran Phi Hoang Long, Dau Trung Kien, Nguyen Thanh Cong and Nguyen Tuan Anh.

The center position responsible for protecting the area near the basket is assigned to foreign player John Fields. This is a shooter with a "giant" physique (2.06m tall, 110kg) and a series of championships in the Portuguese, Thai and Taiwanese basketball tournaments. The remaining foreign player of the Thang Long Warriors Club in VBA 2023 is Sameen Swint - a classy point guard, "dealer" and familiar with Southeast Asian basketball.
