Our generation is the one who has spent decades in education; we were students, then grew up and became teachers standing on the podium to teach. Therefore, every time Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, comes, it is inevitable that we will have emotions and thoughts...
The first thing we remember most on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, "Tet Teachers" are the teachers who taught us since childhood, from the time we were in kindergarten to the university lecture hall.

"Respect the teacher to become a teacher"
Vietnamese folklore has a very reasonable saying: " Respect the teacher to become a teacher". If you want the next generation to respect you, then at least the teacher himself must be an example of that remembrance and respect. Unfortunately, the dust of time erodes age more cruelly than the chalk dust "falling on the teacher's hair" mentioned in the song "Chalk Dust" by musician Vu Hoang.
The teachers of the past are now either still alive or gone. The struggle to make a living has taken them to many places. Some have changed careers because their teaching salaries are no longer enough to support their families. News about the teachers of the past is scattered, so it is difficult for us teachers today to have the conditions to "repay" our teachers' gratitude fully.
"Teachers' Day" when we were students was very different from today. In the years before and after the 1986 renovation period, the country's economy was still difficult. On Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, our "gifts" for teachers were simple, rustic greetings on homemade cards; songs about teachers and schools filled with emotions and enthusiastic applause from the whole class like firecrackers exploding; poems and essays expressing heartfelt feelings about teachers in handwriting posted on wall newspapers...
I remember that year in 7th grade, I composed a rather long poem for my teachers to put in the wall newspaper, which included a few lines: "High, high - high mountain ranges/ Deep - deep ocean/ Comparing their merits to compare/ Are my beloved teachers..." .

Need simplicity, plainness but warm teacher-student relationship
Students today are much better than our generation of students. But the simplicity, modesty, and warmth of teacher-student affection are not as hard to find in today's students as they were in the past. Technology has "encroached on a part of the field" of human emotions. Cards with innocent, handwritten, homemade wishes are gradually decreasing. Instead, pre-printed cards, animated images, and default wishes on smartphones have "spoken" for the students' souls.
About a month ago, on the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day, October 20, I saw a Facebooker share a thought-provoking situation. This Facebook user wrote: "Today in class, my child's teacher told the students in the class that October 20 is coming soon." The above statement of the middle school teacher set up a situation and there were many comments below, the general idea was that she "gently reminded" the students so that she could receive a gift!
This is a wrong view of teachers, a lack of sympathy for teachers. The duty and responsibility of teachers is to educate students, including students having a sense of respect for teachers, remembering the teachings of teachers, including themselves.
Therefore, I think society needs to have positive thinking, pure and proper actions... to not "distort" the meaning of Vietnamese Teachers' Day. Only then can we hope to firmly preserve the tradition of studiousness and respect for teachers of the Vietnamese people.
