On September 26, the People's Committee of Kien Hai District (Kien Giang) announced that in relation to the case of 23 students eating food at the canteen of Kien Hai Secondary and High School and then having stomachaches, fever, diarrhea, and being hospitalized for suspected food poisoning, the locality has decided to temporarily suspend the canteen to clarify the cause.
The local authorities requested the school to create all conditions for the above students to be treated, rested, and healthy before returning to school as usual. The above students' health is now stable again.
Regarding the incident, on September 25, the Food Safety Department also issued a document requesting the Kien Giang Department of Health, the People's Committee of Kien Hai district and related units to organize an investigation to clarify the cause of the suspected food poisoning of 23 students; take food samples to find out the cause; temporarily suspend the above canteen and especially strictly handle violations of food safety (if any) and promptly publicize the results.
Previously, Tuoi Tre Online reported that from September 23 to 25, the locality recorded that 23/47 students who had breakfast (sweet and sour chicken rice, rice with ribs, vermicelli, fish cake bread...) at the canteen of Kien Hai District Secondary and High School had fever, stomachache, and diarrhea. Of these, 8 students were transferred by their families to Kien Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital examined and diagnosed an intestinal infection. Local authorities also took food samples from the school cafeteria to send for testing to determine the cause.
