Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola's brilliance kept West Ham a clean sheet. Arsenal tried everything with clear chances but could not beat the visiting French goalkeeper.

On the other hand, West Ham only had 6 shots, 3 on target but scored 2 goals. Arsenal's defensive lapses caused the home team to have trouble. Oleksandr Zinchenko continued to be the name criticized.

The Ukrainian defender's poor combination with Gabriel Magalhaes in a straightforward defensive situation gave Tomas Soucek the chance to open the scoring. This was also a controversial move as the camera angles could not make it clear whether the ball was out of play or not. The referee ruled it a valid goal for West Ham.

The visitors' second goal came from a set-piece - Arsenal's forte. Konstantinos Mavropanos, a former defender at the Emirates, headed the ball into the net. Arsenal lost 0-2 at home.
