According to the latest report from market research firm IDC, computer shipments in 2023 are expected to decline by 13.7% compared to last year, to 252 million devices.
The computer market is facing various challenges. |
Experts say the PC market still faces many challenges, including the lack of recovery in demand from consumers, businesses andeducation .
"Consumer demand remains low due to the economic downturn. The PC market is also under pressure from a range of other devices such as smartphones, game consoles and tablets," said Jitesh Ubrani, research director at IDC.
But signs of growth are starting to emerge again. PC shipments are expected to increase by 3.7% in 2024, to about 261.4 million units. That’s up slightly from the 259.6 million units shipped in 2018, but still down from 2019.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to be a bright spot to help promote the development of the computer market in the near future. In addition, the trend of flexible working will also be a driving force to help the market recover.
"The global PC market still has a lot of momentum to grow. Windows 10 will be discontinued in 2025. Therefore, many companies will need to upgrade their devices to match the new operating system," said Ryan Reith, vice president of IDC.
