Deputy Director of Quang Tri Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company Le Vinh Thinh has just said that the unit has basically repaired damaged and degraded sections and points on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Road.
According to Mr. Thinh, the Ho Chi Minh Highway West branch passing through Quang Tri province is 63 km long, from Dakrong suspension bridge to the intersection with National Highway 15D leading to La Lay International Border Gate. The route was upgraded, expanded and put into use since 2003, and often suffers the consequences of natural disasters, especially during the rainy season.

Recently, the transportation of coal from Laos through La Lay International Border Gate to Vietnam to go to seaports has caused the number of trucks traveling on this route to increase.
In particular, from the last 6 months of 2023 until now, the number of heavy-duty vehicles circulating on the route has increased dramatically, causing the road surface and foundation to be broken and seriously damaged, creating many swamps, causing traffic insecurity.
Faced with that situation, the unit mobilized maximum means, equipment, and human resources to coordinate with the forces of the two road management departments on duty on the route to carry out repairs and ensure traffic.
"According to preliminary statistics, the damaged road surface and bed cover extend along the entire route, with the severely damaged road surface and bed cover area being about 40,000 m2 . The unit has used boulders and crushed stones to repair the damaged areas to ensure traffic safety.
However, this is only a temporary measure. Regarding the long-term traffic assurance plan, the unit has made recommendations and proposals to the Road Management Area II and the Vietnam Road Administration for solutions to invest in renovating and upgrading the road," said Mr. Thinh.
Faced with the current situation of the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Road being damaged and degraded, the leaders of Road Management Area II are completing procedures and reporting to the Vietnam Road Administration to request investment in emergency repair projects in 2024 and to establish a repair project to include in the 2025 plan.
However, to serve the immediate travel needs of the people, especially with the upcoming Lunar New Year, Road Management Area II recommends that the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee direct functional forces to regularly patrol and control the load of goods at the source, as well as control the operating status of vehicles participating in traffic on the route.
Previously, on January 3, 2024, Quang Tri newspaper also reported on the damage and degradation on this road.
