The tournament's reputation and brand have been affirmed after 16 times of organization. This year, with a new name, the 17th Vietnam Journalists Association Table Tennis Championship - Sao Vang Cup 2024 promises to be exciting and full of surprises.

Spreading the spirit of physical training and sports to all levels of the Association

These days, coming to the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Journalists Association every afternoon after work, everyone feels the atmosphere of table tennis practice is bustling. Especially to prepare for the Vietnam Journalists Association's table tennis tournament, the members of the Association spend more time practicing, all of them share the same passion for table tennis, looking forward to the opening day.

After receiving the registration letter to participate in the Competition from the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Hanoi Journalists Association has sent instructions to the Branches and Inter-Branch Associations to implement according to the plan, members registered to participate and actively participated in training.

As a member of the tournament for many years, journalist Dang Ngoc Hai, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Journalists Association, said that as soon as the newspaper received the plan from the Hanoi Journalists Association, the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Editorial Board deployed, approved the competition lineup and sent the list of members and the competition content to the Organizing Committee, creating the best conditions for members to practice outside of working hours.

Over the years, he has noticed that the tournament has become more and more organized, meticulous and professional. With 14 competition events, the Organizing Committee has divided the time frames clearly and scientifically, all of which are sent to the athletes early. This helps amateur athletes like him to proactively participate in the time, know which matches they will play, which stadium..., thereby arranging to participate in the tournament while still ensuring professional work.

“As journalists, although our professional work is related to journalism, and we are not professional table tennis players, participating in the tournament we feel the professionalism in the organization. Each member feels like they are participating in a professional tournament, of national scale, because all the preparation stages ensure professionalism,” shared journalist Dang Ngoc Hai.

Currently, not only members of the Hanoi Journalists Association, many other branches and federations from the North to the South have begun to implement the program, and many units have deployed it to each of their members. The members themselves also spend more time practicing and interacting with colleagues from other press agencies.

Beyond the scope of a grassroots tournament

Following the success of previous seasons, this year the Center for Journalism Culture - Vietnam Journalists Association continues to be assigned to organize the event. The Center identifies this as a political task, so every step in the organization process is carried out professionally and methodically. Each staff member of the Center determines to try to organize a tournament of scale and professionalism worthy of the traditional value of the tournament as well as the support of the sponsoring unit.

Journalist Le My Ai Linh, Acting Director of the Center for Culture and Journalism, said: “Over the years, the Organizing Committee has always wanted to change and find new things so that the tournament can be held more professionally, systematically and on a larger scale. In particular, this year the Association has called for support from many agencies and units in organizing the tournament, all funding is socialized. From the location to the equipment, everything is invested more. We strive to make the tournament a destination for journalists who are passionate about table tennis at the end of each year. Thanks to the preparation in advance, the methodical implementation of the sponsorship call has created the basis for building a tournament of a worthy, neat and more colorful scale. In addition, support for referees and suitable locations will create better conditions for athletes to compete…”.

16th Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament.

It is known that in the past, the Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament was organized as a playground for exchange and learning, at the level of mass sports. However, each season, the number of athletes registering to participate increased, and the professional level of the athletes also improved over time. Therefore, the tournament gradually went beyond the scope of a movement of journalists, gradually becoming more specialized and professional.

In particular, in recent years, the tournament has begun to discover new players who are young, dynamic and passionate, proving that the tournament is expanding in scale. In fact, there have been teams from the Journalists Associations of provinces and cities participating for the first time, but they are all enthusiastic and eager to compete, not focusing on achievements, simply participating and competing with all their might, trying to dedicate beautiful plays to the audience.

“As everyone witnessed, many matches attracted the attention of many spectators, creating an exciting, enthusiastic atmosphere from the table to the stands. The tournament became a destination, a meeting place for athletes who are members of the Vietnam Journalists Association nationwide to compete. Previously, people came with the spirit of learning and exchanging, but increasingly we can see the spirit of sportsmanship, the spirit of competition, and winning in each match. They always want to affirm their progress through each season,” shared journalist Le My Ai Linh.

Always attaching importance to information and propaganda work, this year the tournament continues to receive support from Hanoi Radio and Television, a companion unit that broadcasts live the opening ceremonies, matches and closing ceremonies on digital infrastructures... This helps spread information about the tournament to the audience. The leader of the Center for Culture and Journalism also affirmed: "This year, from the beginning, the communication work of the tournament will be promoted, following the trend more, the goal is to create a spread, in which we will set up a fanpage and website for the tournament. All information, images, competition schedules, and competition results will also be posted and updated promptly to be made public for athletes and reporters to exploit".
