According to Neowin , although Sony has supported streaming some of the company's PlayStation game library from the cloud since 2014, support for games has been limited due to the limited capabilities of older consoles. That seems to be about to change, as Sony has just announced that it is internally testing a feature that streams the PlayStation 5's extensive game library via the cloud.

According to Sony, the testing process is currently in its early stages. There is no specific time when the new feature will be available to all users.

At launch, the feature will be available to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, who will be able to stream more than 800 PS4, PS3, and older games on PS5, as well as on Windows PC.

Although Sony has been offering cloud game streaming for nearly a decade, the company's CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has admitted that the technology is still "very complicated." He cited high latency when playing games on the cloud as the biggest concern.

Despite the challenges, Sony is still planning to provide a solution for PlayStation 5 fans to play games remotely. Accordingly, at the recent PlayStation Showcase event, the company revealed the 'Project Q' handheld game streamer. Basically, this will be a version of the DualSense controller with a large screen in the middle, capable of connecting to the PlayStation 5 so users can play their game library right on that device. This handheld device is planned to launch around the end of 2023.
