Relive the 80s with Boney M, Joy and Samantha Fox's concert in Da Lat

(Fatherland) - On December 13, 2024 in Hanoi, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong, the People's Committee of Da Lat City, Lam Dong Center for Culture and Arts in coordination with other units organized the official announcement ceremony for the international music project "Dalat Spring Concert" which will take place at 7:30 p.m. on December 21, 2024 at Lam Vien Square, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province.

The music night features world music legends: Boney M. Liz Mitchell, Joy and Samantha Fox - famous singers and bands of the 1970s-1980s with vibrant melodies that have been familiar to millions of Vietnamese audiences for many generations.

Representative of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai, Deputy Director of Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: "Dalat Spring Concert" is expected to be held annually to spread the image of Da Lat as a Creative City in the field of music recognized by UNESCO and towards building Da Lat as a world-class music destination, concretizing Da Lat's commitment when joining the network of creative cities in the field of music of UNESCO. This is also the first time a series of world-class artists have been invited to perform in the city of thousands of flowers.

“The program contributes to realizing the goal of turning Da Lat into an international destination, fulfilling the responsibility of a Creative City in the field of music, thereby spreading the cultural values, nature, and people of Da Lat, creating opportunities for tourism development, promoting the economy of Da Lat in particular and Lam Dong in general,” said Mr. Hoai.

In the context of Vietnam promoting the development of cultural industry, Lam Dong will prioritize the development of performing arts, music, and cinema, which are areas in which the locality has strengths.

According to Mr. Hoai, the province is building institutions, consulting with experts and scientists, and moving towards organizing a national conference to find practical solutions for developing the cultural industry.

“Coming to Da Lat, you can see that in major tourist areas there are always music stages. We determine that music tourism is an inevitable development trend, not just an option. Da Lat will develop tourism associated with culture, creating different cultural values,” Mr. Hoai affirmed.

Five years ago, Vietnamese music lovers certainly could not forget the image of nearly 4,000 fans immersing themselves in the familiar melodies of Boney M and Joy, with songs associated with the passionate youth of more than three decades ago. That vibrant music night really created a fever on social networking forums, causing the media to "waste ink" to talk about this unique musical combination. And now, with a new location - Da Lat, Boney M and Joy will return to Vietnam, bringing a more emotional music night, promising to satisfy the expectations of thousands of music lovers.

Founded in 1976 in Germany with 4 members, Boney M became famous with "Daddy Cool", "Sunny" (1976) and then "Rivers of Babylon", Rasputin" (1978) which made waves on all global music charts and quickly became famous in Vietnam thanks to their cheerful, vibrant and easy-to-listen and easy-to-sing melodies. The band became a monument of Disco and Reggae music in the world in the 1970s and is still considered one of the legendary bands in the world. Boney M has more than 40 hit singles and released at least 30 albums, with an impressive total sales of up to 250 million copies worldwide, including compilations and reissues.
