On the afternoon of March 19, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Tran Van Lau received the delegation of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and Chinese enterprises who came to meet and connect with businesses.

Introducing the socio-economic development situation in the area, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that Soc Trang is one of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, with a natural area of ​​more than 3,200km2 and a coastline of 42km.

According to Mr. Tran Van Lau, the local economy is strong in agriculture. Total rice output reaches over 2 million tons; aquatic products are about 375,000 tons per year. Annual exports are about over 1 billion USD, of which rice exports are over 410 million USD.

In 2023, Soc Trang's GDP growth will reach 5.77%. However, the province's per capita income is still very modest, only about 60 million VND/person/year.

Soc Trang orients economic development towards trade, services, industry and agriculture.

With the provincial planning approved by the Prime Minister, the province has the Tran De Port project in the Vietnam seaport planning. This port is located offshore, about 20km from the mainland.

Regarding the transportation system, the province is implementing the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project and in the future there will be an additional expressway connecting Chau Doc to the Cambodian border. In addition, the Government is also investing in the Dai Ngai bridge project connecting Soc Trang through Tra Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City.

“When completed, the transport infrastructure will be synchronously connected to the entire region, very convenient for economic development by road, sea and river,” said Mr. Tran Van Lau.

Regarding industry, the province plans to have 5 industrial parks; 18 industrial clusters; 20 wind power projects are also planned for investment in the area from now until 2030.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province also informed that there are currently 4 Chinese projects in the province. He expressed his hope that in the future there will be more projects from China in the province.

At the meeting, Chinese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Wei Huaxiang expressed his impression of the achievements of Soc Trang province.

Mr. Tuong said that the two sides have great potential for cooperation, and Chinese enterprises can invest and cooperate well in the province. At the same time, he hopes to exchange with Vietnamese rice experts to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation, especially in rice cultivation and increasing the value of rice in the context of ongoing saltwater intrusion.

Billion-dollar seaport for the Mekong Delta The Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province emphasized that, with the role of gateway for the Mekong Delta region, Tran De seaport is considered the "perfect piece" to help synchronize traffic infrastructure, directly promoting the socio-economic development of the region.
