At the socio-economic press conference this afternoon (September 19), Mr. Bui Hoa An - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport - said that after receiving feedback from people regarding toll collection and traffic infrastructure at the Phu Huu BOT station area, the unit inspected and found some shortcomings.
Specifically, Nguyen Thi Tu Street (from Nguyen Duy Trinh to Dang Thanh Hieu) has many stagnant water areas. The road surface at some locations is damaged, the motorbike lane is covered with mud. The lane marking system on the road is blurred, lacking... does not ensure the ability to exploit, affecting the urban beauty and traffic safety on this road.
The situation of trucks and trailers stopping and parking on Nguyen Thi Tu and Dang Thanh Hieu streets in both directions (despite signs prohibiting stopping and parking) often occurs. However, the authorities do not handle it thoroughly.
Regarding this issue, the Department has sent an official dispatch requesting Vicem Ha Tien Cement Joint Stock Company (project investor) to urgently remedy the situation, and at the same time requested Thu Duc City Police to strictly handle the situation of illegal parking.
Regarding the complaints from residents and businesses about vehicle tolls for households entering and leaving residential areas, exemptions and reductions, etc., a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that there may be cases of unreasonable toll collection.
The Department will monitor and record people's feedback in the first 10 days of implementation, then report to the City People's Committee for appropriate adjustment measures.
Phu Huu BOT Station is a road project connecting Nguyen Duy Trinh to Phu Huu Industrial Park, transferred in 2012, recently completed and started collecting tolls since September 17.
On the very first day of operation, many residents and drivers protested against the BOT fee collection for vehicles entering and leaving residential areas, causing serious traffic congestion in this area.
Previously, the investor issued three types of tolls: one-way, monthly and quarterly. The lowest one-way ticket is 14,000 VND, the highest is 110,000 VND, applied gradually increasing for each type of vehicle.
As soon as information was released about the preparation to collect BOT fees at Phu Huu, many transportation and import-export service businesses sent a petition to the city's leaders, expressing concern about the situation of overlapping fees.
Why is the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City congested on the first day of Phu Huu BOT toll collection?
Proposed maximum speed for cars passing through BOT toll stations in Ho Chi Minh City is only 30km/h
Ho Chi Minh City will unilaterally terminate the BOT contract for the 1,500 billion VND project to build 2.7km of road.
