On November 3, at the University of Foreign Languages - Danang University, the Ministry of Education and Training organized a Vietnamese speaking contest for foreign students in the preliminary round of the Central region, attracting hundreds of foreign students from 15 universities and colleges in the region to participate.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the contest, Mr. Nguyen Hai Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Education and Training), affirmed that Vietnamese language and culture are increasingly asserting their position in the international arena, and more and more foreigners are interested in learning and studying them. Vietnamese has also become one of the foreign languages taught in manyeducational institutions in many countries and territories around the world.
"The 2023 Vietnamese Speech Contest for Foreign Students, organized for the first time nationwide by the Ministry of Education and Training, has received a great response from training institutions across the country and from foreign students of diverse nationalities. This is one of the clearest evidences of the deep interest and love of international friends for the country, people and culture of Vietnam," emphasized Mr. Nguyen Hai Thanh.

With the theme of the contest "Vietnam in me", foreign students from 15 universities and colleges in the Central region shared in Vietnamese their understanding of the country, people and culture of Vietnam; profound memories of life, study and living in Vietnam; and solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and the students' home country.
Through this, it shows the understanding and love of foreign students for the country and people of Vietnam. The image of Vietnam is also seen through the multidimensional lens of international students.
The contest creates motivation to promote Vietnamese language teaching and learning, promote innovation and improve the quality of training in general and the quality of Vietnamese language training in particular.

After the rounds, this afternoon, November 3, the Organizing Committee awarded the first prize to the team from the University of Foreign Languages - Danang University; awarded 2 second prizes to the University of Education - Danang University and Vinh Medical University.
There were 3 third prizes awarded to teams from the following schools: Duy Tan University, Hue University of Foreign Languages, and Vinh University of Technical Education.

In addition, there were 6 consolation prizes awarded to teams from Quy Nhon University, Vinh University, Hue College of Education, Hong Duc University, University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University, and Quang Binh University.
Previously, the preliminary round for the Northern region was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi with the participation of 35 teams.
After the preliminary round in the Central region, the 2023 Vietnamese speech contest for foreign students will hold the preliminary round in the southern region on November 10 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Ho Chi Minh City National University.
The national final round will take place on December 1 in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of 12 excellent teams selected from the preliminary rounds.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, there are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying in Vietnam, of which the Central region has about 5,000 students studying at nearly 40 training facilities. The Central region borders Laos in 8 provinces with a common border of over 1,500 km, with many economic and educational cooperation activities... therefore, the Central region is currently a favorite destination for many Lao students.
Educational institutions in the Central region also attract many foreign students from countries in the ASEAN region and around the world such as China, Korea, Japan, India, France, the Netherlands... studying at different levels, in many fields where the schools have strengths.
Along with the training trend of countries around the world, taking language foundation as the key to open the first door in the learning journey, the Ministry of Education and Training always determines the key factor determining the quality of teaching and learning of foreign students in Vietnam is Vietnamese proficiency.
Teaching and learning Vietnamese is not only about teaching language, equipping knowledge acquisition tools but also promoting culture, spreading national identity and improving intercultural communication skills for international students studying in Vietnam in particular, foreigners and those who love Vietnamese language and culture in general.
