Sevilla defeated AS Roma 4-1 in a penalty shootout after the two teams drew 1-1 in 120 minutes of intense play.
This is also the 7th time in history that Sevilla has stepped onto the highest podium in the second-tier European playground, a record that will probably not be broken for a long time. Previously, they were crowned in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.
With this title, Sevilla has also officially won a ticket to the group stage of the Champions League next season.
Sevilla also became the 5th Spanish team to participate in this tournament after Barcelona, Real Madrid, Ateltico Madrid and Real Sociedad.
As for AS Roma, they have reason to regret after what they showed in the Europa League this season. In particular, this is also the first defeat of coach Jose Mourinho to lose in a European Cup final.
The Europa League final was exciting right from the opening whistle when both teams entered the match with great determination.
AS Roma centre-back Gianluca Mancini was perhaps the most talked about player in the final as he brought mixed emotions.
Mancini was the one who made the pass for Dybala to run down and finish diagonally, opening the score 1-0 for AS Roma in the 35th minute.
However, this central defender accidentally became the "sinner" when he scored an own goal after trying to block Navas' pass, helping Sevilla equalize 1-1 and then forcing the match into extra time and only being determined by a penalty shootout.
In the "shootout", Gianluca Mancini and Roger Ibanez missed their shots, causing the home team to lose 1-4, thereby sadly watching Sevilla step up to the Europa League throne and secure a place in the Champions League next season.
