The Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong City has just held a conference to announce the Decision to establish and launch the UNESCO Campaign Committee to honor Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his death (1585-2035).
Trang Trinh Nguyen Binh Khiem (1491-1585) was from Trung Am village, Vinh Lai district (now Co Am commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city). At the age of 45, he took the exam, won the title of Trang Nguyen, and became an official under the Mac dynasty.
After eight years as an official, the Mac Dynasty was unstable. He submitted a petition denouncing the crimes of 18 sycophants, but King Mac Phuc Hai did not agree. Therefore, in the fall of the year Nham Dan (1542), he resigned from office and returned to his hometown to build Bach Van Hermitage and open a school.
Bach Van Monastery became the center for training talented people of the country at that time with names that will forever be recorded in history books such as Phung Khac Khoan, Nguyen Quyen, Dinh Thoi Trung, Luong Huu Khanh...
Trạng Trình Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm left behind many outstanding poetic works. In particular, he is known for his fulfilled prophecies, also known as “Trang’s prophecies”.
In 2015, the Nguyen Binh Khiem Temple Historical Relic was ranked as a Special National Relic by the Prime Minister. In 2019, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Trang Trinh Temple Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.
