Since October 14, thousands of households in 10 apartment buildings in Thanh Ha urban area (Ha Dong district, Hanoi) have had their water supply cut off, disrupting their lives.

Faced with this situation, many families have had to stay with relatives or spend money to buy bottled water for daily use. Many other people have contributed money to buy clean water from 5m3 water trucks of Ha Dong Clean Water Company Limited, but it is still not enough to meet the demand. Even on the first day of the week, many people here have had to take time off work to find a source of water for their families to use.

Explaining the water cut-off, Mr. Duong Dinh Trinh, Deputy Director of Thanh Ha Clean Water Joint Stock Company, said that the entire amount of water for Thanh Ha urban area is supplied by two sources: underground exploitation at the factory and surface water from Duong River. However, recently, many residents have reported that the water source is not hygienic and polluted, causing allergies and itching.
Therefore, on October 13, the Hanoi Department of Construction held a meeting with the investor of Thanh Ha urban area (Cienco 5 Real Estate Development Joint Stock Company), water supply units and people's representatives on the above issue.
After this meeting, Thanh Ha Clean Water Joint Stock Company sent a written notice to the residents of the urban area, stating that it would stop supplying water from the underground water source at the factory to upgrade and adjust the technology. The company only supplies surface water from the Duong River to the urban area through Ha Dong Clean Water Company Limited, but the flow of surface water from the Duong River through Ha Dong Clean Water Company Limited is low, leading to a water shortage in some buildings, and it will take time to have enough water to serve the daily needs of the people.

Previously, in a meeting last weekend, to solve the problem of ensuring clean water for people in Thanh Ha urban area, Hanoi Department of Construction agreed to assign Ha Dong Clean Water Company Limited to coordinate with Duong River Surface Water Joint Stock Company and Thanh Ha Clean Water Joint Stock Company to regulate and transfer water sources from the water supply system managed by Ha Dong Clean Water Company Limited to supply Thanh Ha urban area, with a minimum capacity of 2,000m3 /day and night.
The Department of Construction requested that in the next 3 months, the investor coordinate with Thanh Ha Clean Water Joint Stock Company to renovate and upgrade the water station to provide clean water according to the standards of the Ministry of Health to serve the people; requested the Hanoi Center for Disease Control to conduct a surprise inspection of the water quality in this urban area and make public the results so that people can use it with peace of mind.

According to the feedback of many residents in Thanh Ha Urban Area, since the beginning of October, they have had to use domestic water with a strong detergent smell; when used for bathing, many people have rashes and allergies. Concerned, residents took water samples to send to the authorities for testing and the results showed that many indicators exceeded the allowable limit, including the Ammonium content of 11.46 mg/l, exceeding the allowable limit (0.3 mg/l).
