Russia-Ukraine war today, November 17, 2024: After the US, it is the UK's turn to stop supplying missiles to Ukraine, citing the need to preserve strategic weapons reserves.

The Times newspaper, citing anonymous sources, reported that Britain has stopped supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with Storm Shadow cruise missiles due to a lack of reserves.

The British military leadership has assessed that it will not transfer weapons that would jeopardize the stockpiles needed to defend the country. Although there has been no official confirmation, this opinion has been confirmed by individuals with close links to the British Ministry of Defense.

Russia attacks many targets in Ukraine

The Russian army launched a major attack on important targets in Ukraine early on November 17.

“Since this morning, the Russian military has been attacking enemy targets across the territory of Ukraine. According to local authorities, some of the attacks targeted energy infrastructure facilities,” the Telegram channel “Operation Z: Military Correspondent of the Russian Spring” reported. As a result of the attacks, many regions of Ukraine lost power.

According to Shot channel, many explosions were recorded in several cities in Ukraine such as: Kiev, Dnieper, Krivoy Rog, Odessa and others. At the same time, electricity and water were cut off in Odessa and electricity in Krivoy Rog.

A day earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure used to support military operations. In addition, Russia announced that two settlements in Donetsk had changed hands.

Breaking into the center of Kupyansk, AFU is at risk of collapse

The Russian ground offensive in Kupyansk is progressing rapidly, Military Summary reported. At the moment, Russian units are on the H26 highway after several motorized raids. Due to the influence of the Oskilm River, it is difficult for the AFU to mobilize forces to regain control of the situation.

Meanwhile, Russian troops have also made a breakthrough in Chasov Yar. Recent GPS data from the city suggests that Russian troops are just outside the central industrial zone. However, this information needs to be verified further.

In the direction of Kurakhove, the Russians launched the first offensive operations towards Berestsky. To the northeast of the city, Russian troops controlled the area along the fields and forests; the attack on Trudove - a village just before Uspenivka - was also underway.

Readovka channel confirmed that the most prominent event of the past week was the daring breakthrough of Russian soldiers in Kupyansk. The attack took place when the AFU was facing logistical difficulties across the entire front.

The sudden entry of Russian armored columns into Kupyansk caught the AFU off guard. Russian assault units had gained positions in the industrial zone east of the city and were trying to expand their bridgehead.

The lack of AFU reserves in this area has forced Ukraine to withdraw resources from other areas, so the Russian advance in other areas could be accelerated.

With 10% of the city now believed to be under Russian control, some experts say this rapid Russian offensive could create a major earthquake, like the one in Avdeevka in February.

Kurakhove “cooking pot” shrinks

War correspondent Marat Khairullin said that on November 16, the Russian side took control of Grigorovka and Makarovka and tightened the siege around Kurakhove.

In the Selidovo area, the Russians have occupied the settlement of Grigorovka, known in Russian as Leninsky. Fighting continues in Yuryevka. To the south, the Russian zone of control has been extended to the west-southwest of the settlement of Novoalekseevka.

In the Veliko Novoselkovsky region, Russia also controls the Makarovka settlement. The next direction of attack is to expand to the west and consolidate newly won positions.

Between Novodarovka and Rovnopol, the Russian Vostok Task Group penetrated the enemy defenses and began flattening the salient behind Grushovaya.

According to the Military Summary channel, on the Kurakhove front, the Russian army is tightening the siege around Ukrainian units, continuously increasing pressure in the area.

Meanwhile, Tobi Ayodele channel said that the Russian side has completely cleared the Yuryevka settlement and advanced to the Pustinka settlement.

The AFU hastily tried to establish new defense lines in the settlements. After the loss of Avdeevka, Ukraine has not created any defense lines strong enough to stop the Russian advance.

According to German military experts from Bild newspaper, the Russian side has developed another 1km to the West and has reached the center of Chasov Yar.
