Prof. Dr. Trinh Quang Phu, Director of the Oriental Research and Development Institute, shared his views during this discussion at HIFF.
We are living in a period of global integration, openness, international integration, solidarity and friendship are vital principles to create prerequisites for each country in the 21st century.
Because, with integration comes market, with integration comes development. Integration is a vital factor for development not only of the economy but also of culture.
However, the disadvantage of integration is the transformation of culture. Therefore, integration without assimilation is an attribute of an independent nation.
From HIFF, Ho Chi Minh City cinema needs a mechanism to take off
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and is among the largest cities in the world, playing a leading role for the whole country.
Ho Chi Minh City residents are a gathering of the whole country and overseas Vietnamese around the world, with nearly 54 ethnic groups. Therefore, the city's culture is rich, diverse, and converges all the elements of the whole country.
Prof. Dr. Trinh Quang Phu
The city is in the development period of the pilot mechanism, I believe that the city will have the optimal orientation and roadmap for international integration to develop culture in general, literature and cinema in particular.
The city's culture and cinema will integrate quickly and develop on par with the times when there is a mechanism to take off.
Film management researchers have assessed the position and great role of cinema.
As a scientist and a writer, I think it should be understood like this:
Cinema is a high-level art, a synthesis of literature, poetry, music, painting, drama... it is brought to the public by talented screenwriters, directors and actors.
Therefore, if culture is the soul of the nation, then cinema is the soul of the soul. When cinema takes off and becomes a key cultural industry, it will be the driving force to elevate people's consciousness and develop the economy, especially the tourism economy.
Cinema is the bridge to connect people together.
In other words, cinema is the ambassador of humanity, an ambassador without borders. Cinema has a pioneering mission, a mission to promote the country.
We remember the film Indochina which helped the world know the charming beauty of Ha Long. The film The Quiet American partly mentioned the old beauty of Saigon.
The film I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass helped Phu Yen welcome many tourists. And the film King Kong Skull Island made the world tremble with the caves and charming landscapes of Ninh Binh and Quang Binh.
The film Pao's Story delighted viewers with the majestic, poetic scenery of the mountainous region of Ha Giang.
Most recently, the film A Tourist's Guide to Love introduces the beautiful landscapes and cultural features of Vietnam through the journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and Ha Giang of a foreign female tourist.
The film captivated audiences, entering the top 10 highest-grossing English-language films worldwide in its first week of release. Afterwards, many tourists to Vietnam said they liked to visit Vietnam because of the film's appeal.
Saying that to see the role of ambassador, the role of promoting the country, stimulating tourism of cinema.

International cooperation is really open for cinema
Ho Chi Minh City is a huge and rich source of topics for cinema and literature and art. 300 years of formation and development of Ho Chi Minh City has many stories and events.
Saigon 100 years ago was the place where Uncle Ho had his first deep love, but he had to sacrifice himself to find a way to save the country. Saigon was the place where the day of total victory took place, ending the longest war in the world.
We had Cu Chi during the resistance war, only 30 kilometers from the center of the war of aggression, a solid base of the revolution with 250 kilometers of tunnels.
There are countless stories about the beautiful love stories of male and female revolutionary soldiers, and countless tragic stories about spiritual, material, and physical sacrifices.
That heroic and majestic sacrifice a thousand years later is still a bright, warm flame.
Can Gio, under the canopy of the biosphere mangrove forest, the city's gateway to the sea, hides many stories that every time they are mentioned, every heart is moved.
A Saigon, which has escaped from the subsidy mechanism, has broken through the barriers of innovation to become the leading city of the country. And is stubbornly innovating through a pilot mechanism, to always be the strong locomotive of the Vietnamese train.
This is the subject for many profound and fascinating stories for cinema, literature and art.

I hope Ho Chi Minh City will put cinema and culture on par with the economy and have proper investment, especially have appropriate mechanisms to develop cinema.
In the mechanism, I think it is necessary to have a capital mechanism, a mechanism to have good scripts, and have enough conditions to build large-scale films.
The city also needs to have a truly open international cooperation mechanism for cinema, so that not only we can make films but the world can come to Vietnam to make films, and join us in making films about the city and about Vietnam.
With the right mechanism, writers, screenwriters, directors, and actors will devote themselves to creating works that are on par with the times.
From this international film festival, I think it will open up new glorious steps for the city with cinema and for cinema.
