Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just signed Decision No. 284 on converting Saigon University of Technology into a private university.
The decision clearly states that the Saigon University of Technology will be converted into the Saigon University of Technology. The conversion process will be carried out in accordance with the law, will not affect the operation of the educational institution, and will ensure the legitimate rights and interests of relevant organizations and individuals.
Saigon University of Technology
Accordingly, Saigon University of Technology is a private university education institution operating in accordance with relevant legal regulations; has legal status, its own seal and account; is under the state management of education of the Ministry of Education and Training and is under the territorial management of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
The decision also states that the current Board of Directors is responsible for organizing an investor conference to establish the school board and recognize the principal in accordance with current law; to be completed within 3 months from the effective date of this decision.
The current Board of Directors and Principal shall continue to perform their functions, duties and powers in accordance with current regulations until the investor conference establishes the school board and recognizes the Principal.
It is known that in 2006, the Prime Minister signed Decision 122 agreeing to convert 19 private universities into private universities, stipulating the completion time before June 30, 2007.
However, over the past 17 years, Saigon University of Technology has encountered difficulties and barriers in the process of shifting from collective ownership to private ownership. The situation became complicated when, from 10 founders and initial investors, after increasing operating capital, the number of investors increased to 90, making it difficult to find consensus. At the same time, it is difficult to harmonize the interests of the initial capital contributors and those who contributed their efforts and intelligence in the process of developing the school.
By March 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training officially had a project to complete the conversion of Saigon University of Technology into a private university (along with Phuong Dong University). At the same time, there was a submission to the Prime Minister, stating that Saigon University of Technology had agreed with the project to complete the conversion previously drafted by the Ministry of Education and Training.
After completing all the procedures of the project, Saigon University of Technology has officially become Saigon University of Technology.
