Battery rental service for electric supercars is coming soon

According to Carscoops, the battery subscription package that Ferrari plans to launch will cost about $7,500/year (equivalent to about 190 million VND/year).

This subscription package includes free repairs for all battery-related errors during use. In addition, customers who own a hybrid or an upcoming pure electric car from Ferrari will have their batteries replaced for free every 8 years.

The Ferrari 296 GTB supercar uses an externally charged hybrid powertrain.

Although both are battery rental services with periodic fees, Ferrari's subscription package is different from the way a popular electric car company, VinFast, is renting batteries in Vietnam.

Specifically, with VinFast, customers who buy a car with a battery lease will have the value of the battery deducted from the car's selling price, then pay monthly based on the distance traveled. With Ferrari, the subscription package is like an extended warranty and the initial cost of the car purchase still includes the battery.

Besides, as a supercar brand, the price that Ferrari offers is also many times higher than that of VinFast.

Currently, Ferrari’s internal combustion engine and electrified models come with a standard three-year warranty. For electrified vehicles, the battery and related components are warranted for five years. This is lower than most other electric car manufacturers, which typically offer eight-year warranties on batteries.

The introduction of the battery subscription service is expected to give customers more peace of mind and more motivation to switch to Ferrari electric supercars, creating a new source of revenue for the company, as well as increasing the resale value of old Ferraris.

To be able to replace the battery for free after 8 years, the total subscription fee that the owner must pay is nearly 60,000 USD (more than 1.5 billion VND). If they continue to pay the fee to replace the battery a second time, that is, after 16 years, the car owner will have to spend a total of nearly 120,000 USD (3 billion VND).
