The Ministry of Information and Communications will issue a postage stamp set "Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2024)" in April 2024. This is the eighth stamp set of Vietnam Post about the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The postage stamp commemorating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2024) is one of two stamp themes that the Ministry of Information and Communications has just added to the 2024 postage stamp theme program, along with the theme commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The Postage Stamp Department, Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) said that with the addition of the above 2 stamp themes, the 2024 postage stamp theme program is expected to issue a total of 15 stamp sets, including 7 commemorative stamp sets and 8 thematic stamp sets. Up to now, 2 stamp sets, "Love Stamp" and "Commemorating the 1,100th Anniversary of the Birth of Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang (924-979)" have been issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications on February 14 and March 22, respectively.

Regarding the theme of postage stamps commemorating the Dien Bien Phu Victory, since 1954, there have been 7 sets of stamps recreating this historical event issued by the Vietnam Post. Of which, the stamp set "Dien Bien Phu Victory" is the first postage stamp set on the theme of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, issued in October 1954, only 5 months after the event took place. The stamp set was designed by artist Bui Trang Chuoc, including 4 stamps measuring 45mm x 33mm, with the common image on the stamp being the image of a Dien Bien soldier standing proudly on the roof of General De Castries' bunker; the color and price were changed with the stamp face values being 10 dong, 50 dong, 150 dong and 0.6 kg of rice respectively.

Since then, every 10 years, Vietnam Post has organized the design and issuance of postage stamps to commemorate the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th and 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. These postage stamps have recreated the most typical and iconic images during the process of our army and people fighting and winning at the Dien Bien Phu battlefield as well as images commemorating the victory of our army and people at the Dien Bien "basin" in 1954.

In particular, the stamp set "Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory" is the only stamp set among the postage stamp sets about Dien Bien Phu victory printed in Cuba. The stamp set "Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory" was designed by artist Huy Toan, including 7 stamp designs and 1 block design, with a total face value of 30 dong and was issued on May 7, 1984. Together with the stamp block "Command and map of the front", the stamp designs of the stamp set "Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory" recreated the most typical images in the journey of the Vietnamese army and people fighting and winning at the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, from "Front Command Meeting" to "Marching to the battle", "Fire front workers", "Pulling artillery" to "Shooting down enemy planes", "Capturing the stronghold" and "On the roof of the De Castries bunker".

The most recent stamp set issued by Vietnam Post about the Dien Bien Phu Victory is "Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954 - 2014)" designed by artist To Minh Trang, Vietnam Post Corporation, including 01 model, with a face value of 3,000 VND.

The stamp set is designed in a modern graphic style, showing the image of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument and the image of Ban flowers - a typical flower of the Northwestern mountains and forests of the Fatherland. The image of the monument and Ban flowers blooming against the blue sky and the relief of the Dien Bien Phu campaign in the Dien Bien Phu Monument Complex area represents the great victory in the aspiration for a peaceful future of the whole nation.

This year, also aiming to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, since mid-January, the Central Council of the Young Pioneers, Vietnam Post and the Vietnam Stamp Association have coordinated to organize a contest to collect and learn about postage stamps in 2024 with the theme "70 years of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory through postage stamps". The Organizing Committee is expected to summarize the contest in mid-April.
