The 2nd Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange will be held from October 22-23, 2024 in Son La Province (Vietnam) and Houaphanh Province (Laos). This is one of the key defense diplomacy events of the Vietnam People's Army in 2024, with significance in many aspects.
The Vietnamese delegation led by General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, and the Lao delegation led by General Chansamone Chanyalath, Politburo member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense will attend the exchange.
At the meeting, Colonel Tong Van Thanh affirmed that the 2nd Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange is an activity that contributes to promoting and strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam; contributing to maintaining a peaceful, stable and developing environment in the region and the world; practically celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day.
In addition, the Exchange also contributes to further strengthening political trust, building and consolidating friendship and special solidarity, and promoting more substantive cooperation between the border protection forces of the two countries, local authorities and people in border areas; thereby, building a Vietnam - Laos border that is truly peaceful, friendly, stable, cooperative and developed.
Also at the press conference, Colonel Viengxay Soulivong, Lao Defense Attaché in Vietnam, emphasized that the 2nd Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange is an opportunity for the people of the two countries to see the role and importance of defense work and the contributions of the two countries' military forces in helping to ensure stability and development in the border area.
Colonel Viengxay Soulivong believes that with the efforts of relevant authorities between Vietnam and Laos, the Exchange will be a great success, leaving deep impressions, opening a new chapter in defense cooperation between the two countries, leaving a deep impression of the great friendship and special solidarity between the two countries' armies and peoples.
The representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defense said that this Exchange program has many new activities compared to the first time, such as the way to organize Exchange activities or adding a joint exercise to capture cross-border criminals. Especially, the program of political exchange and young officers between the two armies in the form of dramatization, broadcast live on Vietnam Television and rebroadcast throughout the border provinces. This is a new point compared to the previous time, which only focused on specific thematic activities. This form aims to connect and comprehensively demonstrate the relationship between the two Parties, two States, two armies and peoples of the two countries.
In particular, before the Exchange takes place, there will be artists and actors from the Army Music and Dance Theater, the Border Guard Art Troupe, the Military Region 2 Art Troupe, the Son La Music and Dance Theater and the Lao People's Army Art Troupe performing art performances to serve the people in the border areas of the two countries.
For a long time, the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has become a loyal, pure and rare relationship in the world, a priceless asset of the two nations. The people of the two countries have stood side by side to win victory in the cause of defending the Fatherland. Today, in the construction and development of each country, the two sides continue to cooperate closely, in which the construction of a stable Vietnam - Laos border, cooperation and mutual development, is always a focus of both sides.
The Vietnam - Laos border is about 2067km long, bordering 10 provinces of Vietnam: Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam and Kon Tum and bordering 10 provinces of Laos: Phong Sa Ly, Luong Pha Bang, Hua Phan, Bo Ly Kham Xay, Kham Muon, Sa Van Na Kiet, Sa La Van, Xieng Khouang, Se Kong and At Ta Pu.
