The SSO's November concert will be themed "Divertimento"

Divertimento is a genre of classical music that emerged during the Baroque period and flourished during the Classical period. The word "divertimento" comes from the Italian word for "entertainment" or "relaxation." As the name suggests, divertimento is not as complex as a symphony or sonata, but is light-hearted, playful, and easy to enjoy.

With a repertoire of four works by world symphonic icons, "Divertimento" will begin with Scott Joplin's gentle jazz "Three Rags for Five," arranged by John Iveson for brass quintet. Joplin was a pioneer of the Ragtime genre - a captivating jazz style characterized by syncopated rhythms. "Three Rags for Five" uses Joplin's three famous Rags as three short stories, taking the audience through a range of emotions from the lively, optimistic opening of "Maple Leaf Rag," to the humorous, exciting "The Entertainer" and closing with the powerful rhythms of "Pine Apple Rag," evoking the joyful emotions of the year-end holiday season.

The orchestra will continue to captivate the audience with Bartók's "Divertimento for Strings" - an interesting blend of Hungarian folk material and modern musical language, with a structure of three movements. Unlike the simple joy of the first Ragtime, "Divertimento for Strings" is a profound story of Bartók in the tumultuous period before World War II, when he sought safety in Switzerland. The movements are also when the audience will find their own moments of silence and depth.

Mozart's "Divertimento for Winds", KV 270, No. 14, marks a new dramatic turning point in the audience's emotional journey. Written in 1777, this is one of Mozart's outstanding divertimento works. This piece of music written specifically for wind orchestra was often performed at parties or meetings of the aristocracy. With its cheerful, lively melodies at a fast pace and interesting combination of instruments, "Divertimento for Winds", KV 270, No. 14 promises to make the audience feel like they are attending a lavish royal party.

Closing the night was Ibert's composition for the play Un Chapeau de Paille d'Italie (An Italian Straw Hat), which combined many musical elements with a satirical and humorous style. The orchestra's skillful performance of the lively, festive piece, highlighted by passages that included police sirens and piano accompaniment, promised to "burn up" the atmosphere at the Ho Guom Theater.

The concert promises to bring a memorable artistic experience to the audience.

From the light, cheerful melodies of Joplin, through the thoughtful notes of Bartók, to the "elegant sounds" of Mozart and ending with the witty humor of Ibert, the concert "Divertimento" is expected to bring the audience not only a memorable artistic experience, but also a time to relax and feel the joy of the approaching end of the year.

Ticket prices for the "Divertimento" concert range from VND300,000 to VND2,000,000.
