"Chasing" clouds over Ham Thuan Lake

Clouds drift over the mountaintops, clouds float along the roads… But the most fascinating sight is the clouds, along with the mist and dew, blending together in the heart of Ham Thuan Lake in the early morning, allowing visitors to touch them. The feeling of "hunting" for clouds in the Binh Thuan sky is truly indescribable…

Nature has bestowed upon each region unique characteristics, sometimes turning them into advantages. For example, in Binh Thuan province, Tuy Phong district has the sunniest and windiest weather in the province, which helps people cultivate branded grapes. The wind, on the other hand, is used in wind power projects. In Bac Binh, amidst the sandy "desert," Bau Trang Lake has become an attractive tourist destination. In Tanh Linh, nestled amidst vast mountains and forests, lies the picturesque Thac Ba Waterfall… Meanwhile, Ham Thuan Bac, from Dong Giang and La Da to Da Mi, enjoys a mild climate influenced by the Di Linh plateau, resulting in more rainfall than other areas. Especially in Da Mi commune, temperatures are consistently 4 degrees Celsius lower than neighboring areas, creating ideal resorts for tourists, particularly those from urban areas seeking peace, fresh air, mountains, and expansive lakes after days in crowded cities. I was quite surprised when Ngo Huynh Anh Tuan – Head of the Southern Regional Representative Office of MEKONG – ASEAN Newspaper – sent me a picture of “clouds covering the mountains and forests, obscuring even the path no one travels…”. When he sent the photo, Tuan didn't add a caption, but instead asked me a riddle: “Do you know of any place in Binh Thuan that's as beautiful as this?” Even though I'm a local, the picture was so beautiful and unique that I was a little taken aback. Luckily, Tuan later revealed that he was at Ham Thuan Lake, Da Mi (about 5-7 km from Da Mi Lake). Tuan said: “Come up here to socialize with us. A few days ago, some friends from Hanoi came here for a vacation and praised it so much, so I came to check it out, and I didn't expect it to be so beautiful…”

In Da Mi this season, the rain is endless. Some nights it rains all night, and even after the rain stops, the sky is covered in a white blanket of clouds. After a heavy rain, the moisture accumulates, forming clusters of clouds that drift lazily across the road. If you're riding a motorbike, these clouds sometimes brush past your face, giving you a strange feeling. If you love picturesque scenery, just sit on the Cloud and Wind Hill, located right on National Highway 55 (about 300 meters from the Da Mi Commune People's Committee headquarters, heading from the La Da intersection, in Da Tro village), sipping coffee and watching the clouds drift before you, between 5 and 7 am. On the other side is the Ham Thuan - Da Mi hydroelectric reservoir, where mist, clouds, and moisture intertwine to create all sorts of shapes, depending on each person's imagination – very interesting. Around 6 am, when the sun rises and the dawn light pierces through the clouds, the scene becomes even more beautiful. At this time of year, tourists start "hunting" for clouds because there's enough light for more colorful and beautiful photos... Da Mi is in its fruit season; durian, avocado, mangosteen, and macadamia trees are laden with ripe, juicy fruit, emitting a strong aroma as if waiting for tourists to pick and enjoy them...
