Tan Son Nhat Airport’s domestic terminal has begun to see a return of passengers after the crowded Tet holiday. Taxis and ride-hailing services at the airport have been asked to increase their fleet by 25% to meet passenger demand.
On February 1, the fourth day of Tet, Tan Son Nhat International Airport reported a difference in the number of passengers arriving and departing at the domestic terminal, indicating that passengers began returning to Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces earlier.
Specifically, today the airport operated 945 flights, including 860 passenger flights. The total number of passengers arriving and departing from the airport today is expected to exceed 146,300, marking one of the busiest days after Tet.
In particular, the number of passengers arriving in Ho Chi Minh City increased dramatically, with approximately 64,000 arrivals, nearly double the number of passengers leaving the city.
To meet the increasing travel demand, the number of domestic flights to Ho Chi Minh City has been adjusted to increase sharply. According to the flight slot allocation plan, many peak hours recorded up to 50 flights/hour, equivalent to an average of more than 1 minute for a flight taking off or landing at Tan Son Nhat.
The busiest time slots include 9am-10am, 11am-12pm, 2pm-3pm and 4pm-5pm. Not only during the day, a series of night flights also land in Ho Chi Minh City, prolonging the crowded pace until late at night. According to many aviation businesses, passengers return to Ho Chi Minh City early, preparing to work from next week.
"I took my daughter to work early on the 4th, then took a day off. Then, I went back to work on the 6th. I flew earlier to avoid the crowds and also had time to arrange my work before getting back to work," said Minh Nguyet, who works at a shipping company in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
With the strong increase in the number of passengers returning to Ho Chi Minh City from the 4th, it is expected that tomorrow (February 2) and the 6th day of Tet (February 3), Tan Son Nhat Airport will continue to witness peak days. Airlines have planned to add staff and increase flight frequency to ensure passengers travel as smoothly as possible.
Taxis and technology cars are required to increase by 25%
Faced with this situation, airport representatives requested that airlines send staff directly to the counter/gate to resolve questions and support passengers promptly, avoiding causing disorder at the terminal.
At the same time, taxi and technology car companies are also required to increase the number of vehicles in service by 25% compared to the initial registration, in order to reduce the shortage of means of transport.
