These are fields of chrysanthemums, roses, daisies, gerberas and many colorful ornamental plants grown on trellises in flower gardens. At the flower loading and unloading dock next to the Sa Dec River (in Tan Quy Dong Ward, Sa Dec City), there are always busy vehicles transporting ornamental flowers by river and road. The peak season starts from the 11th lunar month until near Tet, vehicles and boats transport ornamental flowers from Sa Dec to all over the country.
Ms. Vo Thi Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Dec City, said that the ornamental flower growing profession brings in a good income, so the Sa Dec flower village is expanding day by day. Up to now, the total flower growing area is more than 950 hectares (an increase of more than 222 hectares compared to 2022), concentrated in Tan Quy Dong Ward (320 hectares) and Tan Khanh Dong Commune (324 hectares). The whole city has 4,000 households engaged in the production of ornamental flowers, an increase of more than 1,000 households compared to 2022. Ornamental flowers are available all year round, so there are nearly 200 businesses in the area. It is estimated that each year ornamental flowers bring local people a total value of more than 3,200 billion VND.
In addition to producing and trading ornamental flowers, in the past 10 years, Dong Thap province has promoted the development of ecological agricultural tourism, and promoted the introduction and promotion of Sa Dec flower village. Since then, in addition to the long-famous Tu Ton Rose Garden, Sa Dec City now has dozens of well-known tourist attractions such as Hung Thy Happyland, Rose Fields, etc.

To honor ornamental flower growers and promote the local image, Dong Thap province decided to organize the Sa Dec Ornamental Flower Festival with the theme "Love of Land - Love of Flowers" from December 30 to January 5, 2024, with many attractive events for visitors to Dong Thap.
Farmer Tran Thanh Hung, owner of the Frog Flower House Homestay, shared: "The ornamental flower festival will help people in Sa Dec flower village have a new way of thinking about traditional craft villages, considering them as local resources to change the way of farming associated with developing local community tourism. For many months now, people working in tourism in Sa Dec flower village have built new clusters of miniature landscapes to introduce Sa Dec to visitors from near and far."
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Chairman of the Sa Dec City Ornamental Plants Association, shared: "Sa Dec farmers are looking forward to the Festival and hope to introduce to domestic and foreign businesses the potential for ornamental flower development, as well as tourism to attract many large investors to the locality so that the craft village can reach further."

Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Sa Dec City People's Committee, said that Dong Thap is a land with many valuable historical and cultural relics, along with unique culinary arts... In particular, Sa Dec ornamental flower village has unique characteristics that cannot be found anywhere else, so the province organizes the Ornamental Flower Festival to honor the more than 300-year-old flower village; at the same time, promote the economic and cultural values of ornamental flowers associated with tourism development and building the local image.
According to Mr. Tuan, to prepare well for the Festival, the province has focused on implementing investment, renovation, and completing projects. Expanding Sa Dec City Square to 7.4 hectares, with a total cost of over 140 billion VND and renovating Sa Dec Flower Park; beautifying urban areas and tourist attractions, mobilizing local households to participate in planting flowers and ornamental plants; investing in renovating and upgrading facilities, expanding reception and service spaces; renewing and improving the quality of products and services; implementing plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation, and food hygiene and safety.
"Through the Sa Dec Ornamental Flower Festival, we want to introduce to the people and tourists the image of the land of pink lotus with affection, dynamism, creativity and traditional cultural values - a safe and friendly destination," Mr. Tuan added.
