According to Dexerto , in a document published on September 6, Riot Games announced that the 2024 VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) transfer window will open on September 11, 2023 and close on July 15, 2024. During this time, competing teams will be able to sign players and make changes to their rosters.
This is a major change from the 2023 transfer window, which closed on February 1, about two weeks before the start of the first tournament of the VCT LOCK//IN tournament.
Riot Games changes lineup rules for VCT 2024
With the new roster window extending almost all the way up to the Valorant Champions tournament, teams will be able to make changes more flexibly based on the progress of the season, which should help improve the level of play and avoid the existence of 'dead teams'.
In the 2023 season, VCT EMEA team Karmine Corp had to use a coach to compete, after a player left the team in the middle of the season and failed to recruit new players.
In addition, Riot has also relaxed the regulations on VCT's squad size next year, requiring participating teams to only need a minimum of 5 players, down from 6 in 2023. At the same time, the reserve squad can now use up to 5 players, one more than in 2023.
The reserve list may even include players who do not meet minimum age requirements and are suspended, as well as players on loan and two-way players.
Allowing two-way players is one of the biggest changes to the 2024 roster construction rules. These players are eligible to play for both VCT teams and their secondary teams. VCT teams can have up to 2 designated two-way players on their full roster.
Riot Games also changed some rules about the lineup at VCT 2024
In particular, Riot is also setting up a 14-day period called a 'safe harbor' so that when players leave VCT teams, they can find a new home. Even if that player stops playing during the transfer period, they will have 2 weeks to sign a contract with another VCT team, as long as it does not change the roster of any international tournaments.
The 2024 season will officially begin on February 1, 2024 and end on October 7, 2024. With three global events including VCT Masters Madrid, VCT Masters Shanghai and Valorant Champions. Below are the final roster dates for all three global VCT events next year:
- VCT Masters Madrid: from 8 – 24.3.2024.
- VCT Masters Shanghai: from 17.5 – 9.6.2024.
- Valorant Champions: from 26.7 – 25.8.2024.
