With good growth momentum, fruit and vegetable exports could reach 6.6 billion USD in 11 months, up 27% over the same period last year.

This figure was calculated by the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association based on data from customs.

China remains the largest market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, with nearly 4.1 billion USD in 10 months. This figure increased by nearly 30% over the same period last year and accounted for 66.5% of Vietnam's total fruit and vegetable export turnover.

Other markets such as the US grew by 35%, South Korea (41%) and Thailand (70%). Meanwhile, the Netherlands was the only market to decline by 26%.

Durian is a fruit that accounts for about 40-45% of fruit and vegetable exports in the first 10 months of this year. China is the largest buyer of this fruit, with 3 billion USD. Thanks to that, Vietnam holds the second position in durian export market share to this billion-people market, with 39%, after Thailand (60.2%).

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that China is a huge market and has a huge demand for fruits and vegetables, especially Vietnamese durian.

According to him, with the export growth in recent months, Vietnam is likely to surpass Thailand to become the largest durian exporter to China in the next 1-2 years. He also expects fruit and vegetable exports this year to reach a record 7 billion USD.

In August, Vietnam signed a protocol to export frozen durian and fresh coconut to China, opening up great opportunities for agricultural products. Two months ago, many businesses signed large export contracts, with one unit reaching an agreement to supply up to 1,500 containers of coconut to this market.

In the US, Vietnamese agricultural products, especially coconut, passion fruit and fruits, are increasingly popular, promising to expand promotion and growth in the future. As for Thailand, this year's unfavorable weather has reduced the output of many of their agricultural products. Therefore, this country has continuously increased purchases from the Vietnamese market for domestic consumption or re-export to China.
