On March 12, the Project Management Board of “Enhancing resilience to climate change impacts for vulnerable coastal communities in Ca Mau province” held a conference to deploy component 1 to support the construction of storm and flood resistant houses, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The project “Enhancing resilience to climate change impacts for vulnerable coastal communities in Ca Mau province” has 3 components: Support for building storm and flood resistant houses; planting mangrove forests; information and data on natural disaster risks.

Regarding the component of supporting the construction of storm and flood resistant houses, up to now, the whole province has 433 poor households living in coastal and near-coastal areas eligible to receive support for house construction (each house worth 80 million VND) in 24 communes of 6 districts.
The house must meet the 3 hard criteria of the Ministry of Construction including: hard foundation, hard frame, hard roof, minimum area of 30m2 or more. For single-parent households, the minimum area is 18m2 or more. Expected completion time is mid-July 2024.
Speaking at the conference, affirming that this is a humane project to support housing for poor households in coastal communes, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province Le Van Su directed the districts and communes with beneficiaries to focus on implementing the tasks so that the component can be completed according to the set plan. "This is a very good opportunity to care for the poor, so it must be implemented with the highest sense of responsibility so that the poor and near-poor can best enjoy the benefits of the project," Mr. Le Van Su emphasized.
Mr. Le Van Su also requested the Project Management Board to actively advise competent authorities to direct more closely the implementation of the component; conduct a review of the beneficiaries. On the part of the District People's Committees, it is necessary to pay attention to directing the Commune People's Committees to best fulfill their responsibilities for the component; review the beneficiaries and be responsible for the review results.
The leaders of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province also requested the People's Committees of communes to implement the component with a high sense of responsibility; mobilize the participation of the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels and the Youth Union to participate in supporting the implementation of the component; at the same time, assign officials in charge of monitoring from the beginning of implementation to the completion of the houses.
