Sharing at the conference summarizing the 2023-2024 school year and deploying tasks for the 2024-2025 school year of the Ho Chi Minh City education and training sector, held on August 16, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that in the 2024-2025 school year, the whole country will enroll 10th graders, take high school graduation exams, and take excellent exams at all levels according to the 2018 General Education Program. Therefore, teachers must pay attention during the teaching, testing, and evaluation process, according to the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The Ministry of Education and Training will soon issue regulations for high school graduation exams and enrollment in 2025, no later than November 2024, 3-4 months earlier than every year.
Students take the 2024 high school graduation exam in Ho Chi Minh City
The Ministry of Education and Training will also issue regulations guiding the admission of students to grade 10 public schools according to the new curriculum for localities to proactively implement. According to Mr. Thuong, the 2025 high school graduation exam has many new points, Ho Chi Minh City needs to organize a trial exam so that students, teachers, and administrators are not surprised.
The 2018 General Education Program will be implemented from 2020, starting with grade 1, in a rolling manner. This school year, the new program will be applied to grades 5, 9 and 12.
With the high school graduation exam according to the newly announced program, students must take 4 subjects. Of which, 2 are compulsory subjects: math and literature; 2 are optional subjects from the subjects that students study in high school, including chemistry, physics, biology, literature, geography, history, economic and legal education, information technology, technology and foreign languages (English, German, Russian, Japanese, French, Chinese, Korean).
Thus, compared to present, the number of subjects and exam sessions have both decreased. In particular, the literature subject remains in essay format. The remaining subjects are multiple choice with questions of choosing the correct option, true/false answers and short answers.
According to the next school year plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, the high school graduation exam is expected to be held on June 26 and 27, 2025.
Many new points in the city-level excellent student exam
Mr. Tran Ngoc Huy, Deputy Head of the Secondary Education Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the city-level excellent student exam for grades 9 and 12 in the 2024-2025 school year will have a number of new subjects in line with the 2018 General Education Program.
Specifically, there will be a new subject, which is economic and legal education. Meanwhile, when implementing the new program at the secondary level, there will no longer be single subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, history, and geography. Instead, there will be integrated subjects including natural sciences, history, and geography. Therefore, the city-level excellent student exam for grade 9 will have natural sciences, history, and geography. The technology subject will be tested according to the orientation of industry and agriculture.
Natural Science is a test consisting of two parts.
