Proposal to hold high school graduation exam 3 weeks early: "Ministry of Education and Training will consider"

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí19/03/2025

(Dan Tri) - Regarding the proposal to hold the 2025 high school graduation exam 3 weeks earlier than the old schedule, a representative of the Ministry of Education and Training said that this is a big issue and the Ministry will consider it before deciding.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, recently said so.

According to Mr. Ha, the preparation for the high school graduation exam is decentralized to the local level. Currently, the Ministry has no official information about the proposals of the localities.

However, in general, if there is a need to move, there will be a plan that will have the least impact on the entire system. This is a big issue and will be carefully considered before a decision is made.

According to Mr. Ha, this is a national exam, taking place simultaneously in 63 provinces and cities, so there is no way each locality will organize a high school graduation exam at a different time.

If there is a change in the expected exam schedule, it will be changed simultaneously nationwide. It must be carefully researched and calculated to have the least impact on the system and students.

Before the plan to merge some provinces and cities in the near future, some candidates expressed whether there will be changes in priority policies in university admissions or regional priority points added?

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) affirmed that all regional priority points, subjects and priority plans are still applied according to the regulations of previous years.

Responding to Dan Tri reporters this morning (March 19), the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that the department has not received any response from the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the proposal to extend the high school graduation exam time that was proposed yesterday.

Previously, on March 18, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training sent a document to the Ministry of Education and Training requesting to adjust the exam schedule of the 2025 high school graduation exam.

In the proposal document, the Department of Education and Training stated: in the 2024-2025 school year, Hanoi will have nearly 130,000 students taking the high school graduation exam. The number of students taking the high school graduation exam accounts for about 1/10 of the whole country.

This is also the first year that high school students take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program and is also the school year that circulars related to enrollment, extra teaching and learning are applied.

With the largest number of students in the country and a large-scale exam organization, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training adjust the exam schedule earlier than the announced draft.

Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh also hope that the 2025 high school graduation exam will be pushed back about 3 weeks compared to the scheduled date.

Specifically, the Ministry plans to hold the 2025 high school graduation exam on June 26-27. However, in a document recently sent to the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed adjusting the time to hold the high school graduation exam to the time frame of June 7-10.

Nghe An Department of Education and Training also has a document proposing to adjust the 2025 high school graduation exam schedule to June 8, 9, and 10.

The 2025 High School Graduation Exam is the first year that students from the 2018 General Education Program will take the exam. The exam is scheduled to take place from June 26-29.

According to the previously announced plan, from the 2025 high school graduation exam, each candidate will take 4 subjects including: math, literature and 2 elective subjects from the remaining subjects (foreign language, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, technology).

The literature test will be in essay format with a time limit of 120 minutes; the test consists of 2 parts: reading comprehension (4 points) and writing (6 points). The remaining subjects will be in multiple choice format, in which the math test will take 90 minutes, the remaining subjects will take 50 minutes.
