On the evening of August 30, at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra Hotel, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024). According to a VNA reporter in Phnom Penh, the ceremony was chaired by Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang, with the participation of President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea and local officials; along with many ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions of countries in Phnom Penh, representatives of the community of agencies, businesses and Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Cambodia. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang highlighted the glorious milestones of the country, especially on September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh - the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. (Photo: Huynh Thao/VNA) Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang reviewed the great achievements in many fields that Vietnam has achieved during the 79-year journey of fighting for national independence, building and developing the country and implementing the renovation process. Today, Vietnam is continuing to promote the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country, realizing the goal of building a Vietnam with "rich people, strong country, democracy, equality, and civilization," becoming a country with an upper middle income by 2030 and a developed country with a high income by 2045. Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang emphasized that in foreign relations, Vietnam always adheres to the policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification, multilateralization, and deep integration into the region and the world under the motto "Vietnam is a friend, a reliable and responsible partner of the international community," while actively working with member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to build a cohesive, unique, harmonious, prosperous and prosperous ASEAN Community. Persisting in that foreign policy, Vietnam has been creating for itself a favorable international environment for national development, becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors and international tourists. Regarding bilateral relations, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang affirmed that Vietnam and Cambodia are two neighboring countries with a long-standing relationship of solidarity, friendship and close ties, having "stood shoulder to shoulder" to overcome countless difficulties and hardships to gain independence, build, protect and develop the country. That relationship was built with the intelligence, sweat and blood of generations of leaders, heroic martyrs and outstanding children of the two nations. Today, despite many changes in the world and regional situation, the two countries have always maintained close cooperation, achieving remarkable achievements in various fields with the imprint of high-level visits, especially the official visits to Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet in December 2023; especially the recent State visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia by Vietnamese President To Lam in July 2024. Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang expressed his joy that the trade turnover between the two countries continues to grow positively, with bilateral trade turnover in 2023 reaching 8.6 billion USD and in the first 8 months of 2024 estimated at nearly 7 billion USD, expecting that in 2024, the growth rate will return to over 10 billion USD, and cooperation in other fields will continue to progress positively. Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang believes that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship under the motto of “Good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability” will steadily move forward, increasingly develop strongly for the benefit of the people of the two countries, making positive contributions to the ASEAN community, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea sent his warmest congratulations to the Party, Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, when the National Day marks the beginning of a new era defined by sustainability, solidarity and hope. Together with the Vietnamese people to celebrate this important event, Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea highly appreciated the process of reconstruction, economic development, prosperity and outstanding international position of Vietnam achieved under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The top Cambodian diplomat expressed his belief that with the wise leadership of the Party and State of Vietnam, Vietnam will achieve even greater successes in the coming years, with important milestones including successfully organizing the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026, as well as achieving the status of a developing country with modern industry and an upper-middle income by 2030, and by 2045, Vietnam aims to become a comprehensively developed, high-income socialist-oriented country. Cambodia is grateful to the Government and people of Vietnam for their invaluable support in helping to liberate Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime. According to Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea, Cambodia highly values and continues to cherish the partnership that generations of leaders of the two countries have built and implemented priorities to promote the relationship of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability.” The two countries have further strengthened mutual trust and understanding through state visits as well as visits at the local government level, thereby promoting the warm friendship. Mr. Sok Chenda Sophea said that the two countries should not only maintain this momentum, but also further promote it. Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea stressed that the relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia have been constantly developing and expanding in all areas, in which soft and hard connectivity is a vital factor for the economic relations of the two countries, as well as promoting cultural exchanges and people-to-people relations. The trade relations of the two countries are on the right track, while cooperation in other areas including investment, education, human resource development, defense and transnational crime prevention and control has been enhanced. In addition to bilateral cooperation, Cambodia and Vietnam also work closely together to contribute to regional and international peace and security by jointly addressing issues of mutual concern. On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary and Prime Minister of the Royal Government Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet sent congratulatory messages on Vietnam's National Day to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. In the congratulatory message, the President of the Cambodian National Assembly pledged to maintain the long-standing friendship, good neighborliness, and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, and expressed hope that the bilateral relationship will further develop and strengthen for the common interests of the two peoples. Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed his satisfaction at the fact that Cambodia and Vietnam have fostered close relations and extensive cooperation at all levels, based on the spirit of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability.” He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Vietnam to further strengthen the brotherly relationship for the mutual benefit of the two countries, promoting the common vision of an ASEAN Community of peace, stability, harmony, prosperity and beyond.
