NBC News reported on March 7 that US President Donald Trump has just signed an executive order on the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve fund , marking a major change in the country's digital asset policy.

Writing on social network X, David Sacks, the official in charge of overseeing cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence (AI) policy at the White House, said the reserve will only source Bitcoin seized by authorities in criminal and civil cases, ensuring that taxpayers do not bear the financial burden.

The US government is estimated to control around 200,000 Bitcoins, although no full audit has been conducted. President Trump has called for a full accounting of federal digital assets and banned the sale of Bitcoin from the reserve, defining it as a permanent store of value.

In addition, he directed the establishment of a digital asset reserve managed by the Ministry of Finance to store other confiscated cryptocurrencies.

Previously, many cryptocurrency investors expressed concerns after President Trump announced on social network Truth Social that in addition to Bitcoin, other digital currencies such as Ether, XRP, Solana's SOL token, and Cardano's ADA will be part of the strategic cryptocurrency reserve fund.

"I have nothing against XRP, SOL or ADA, but I don't think they are suitable for strategic reserves. There is only one digital asset in the world today that meets the standard and that digital asset is Bitcoin," according to Bitcoin billionaire Tyler Winklevoss.

Fintech investor Ryan Gilbert said Trump’s move would send a strong message that Bitcoin is here to stay. He said the decision would help differentiate Bitcoin from other cryptocurrencies.

According to Sacks, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick will oversee further policy development, focusing on zero-budget Bitcoin acquisition strategies.
