Arsenal consider recruiting some young players
22-year-old Dutch international Jurrien Timber is valued at £50 million by Ajax. Last summer, as soon as he joined MU, coach Ten Hag planned to bring Timber to Old Trafford.
However, with the 2022 World Cup just around the corner, Jurrien Timber decided to stay with the Dutch team. The Red Devils then turned to Lisandro Martinez, also from Ajax.
Timber believes that now is the right time to leave to develop his career. Ajax also "gives the green light" but the partner must meet the transfer fee they require.
Arsenal made an initial bid of £30m which was immediately rejected. They are expected to return with a higher offer in the next few days.
Coach Mikel Arteta wants a new defender who is good with his feet, can play on the right wing and when needed move into the center like Zinchenko often does on the opposite flank.
Jurrien Timber fits the bill as he is versatile and confident in handling the ball under pressure. Arsenal hope to close the deal before the squad returns to pre-season.
The Gunners have a £180m recruitment budget this summer. In addition to Timber, they are also hoping to bring in two other quality names, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
Arsenal are also considering a move for Southampton's young midfielder Romeo Lavia, should Thomas Partey or Granit Xhaka leave.
