According to GameRant , PlayStation Studios is taking a big step towards expanding its already impressive first-party content library with the acquisition of game developer Firewalk Studios.
Firewalk Studios was founded more than five years ago by veteran game director Ryan Ellis and former Activision CFO Tony Hsu. Hsu and Ellis said they have been backed by Sony since 2021, but the recent acquisition by PlayStation Studios represents a growing level of investment from the company, which could mean a brighter future for the games the studio is working on.
PlayStation Studios has acquired Firewalk Studios
Ryan Ellis previously worked at Bungie as Technical Art Director for Destiny and Creative Director for Destiny 2. He also worked on Halo Reach , Star Wars: The Force Unleashed , and multiple Oddworld titles. As for Tony Hsu, he has over 7 years of experience in Activision's finance department.
It's unclear what work Firewalk will be doing for PlayStation Studios, but PlayStation says the studio is "creating inspiring worlds based on unique gameplay." The fact that Firewalk's founders have worked on the popular Destiny franchise is certainly a big help in creating a large-scale, multiplayer game world.
Everything surrounding Firewalk Studios and its new partnership with PlayStation remains under wraps, but the deal does suggest that Sony is definitely investing heavily in expanding the company’s multiplayer content going forward, as was made clear by its previous announcement of at least 10 live service games by 2026.
