Open letter to raise money to buy projectors

PARENTS PROVIDED

On November 30, parents of 7th grade students at Rang Dong Secondary School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) expressed their anger on the parents' forum about the class's parent representative committee raising funds to buy a projector and dividing the money equally among each parent.

Accordingly, parents of students in grade 7 of Rang Dong Secondary School provided an open letter to contribute to buying a projector for grade 7/8 sent by the class's parent representative committee to members, stating the method of mobilization: "The class has 37 students divided by an average of about 365,000 VND/student. We hope that parents of our class will consider and together support the purchase of a projector to facilitate and help our children's learning."

With the above open letter, the student's parent said: "I work overtime for 30,000 VND per hour. Now hearing these fees makes me really worried. In the class, many parents with difficult circumstances stated their situation and did not agree to buy, but in the end, they could not win over the majority of the well-off group who agreed. I think in difficult times like this, is it a waste to buy a machine that is used a few times a week and sometimes not used at all?"

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporter, Mr. Tran Anh Kiet, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District, said that the department has received information about the open letter to mobilize funds to equip projectors from the representative board of parents of class 7/8 students of Rang Dong Secondary School as reported by parents. The Department of Education and Training has directed the school to request the representative board of this class to immediately stop the above mobilization. In addition, the Department of Education and Training requested the school to coordinate with parents to comply with the regulations on fundraising according to Circular 16 of the Ministry of Education and Training.

The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District said that according to the report of Rang Dong Secondary School, the representative board of parents of grade 7/8 students arbitrarily organized to raise funds to buy projectors without informing, discussing or asking for the school's opinion. After this incident, Mr. Kiet said that the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District will continue to thoroughly disseminate, warn and remind principals to note that parents need to coordinate with the school to properly implement regulations on fundraising.
