On February 7, comrade Tran Hong Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, visited and inspected aquaculture activities in Van Don district. Accompanying him were comrade Le Minh Hoan, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development ; leaders of several central ministries and branches. On the side of Quang Ninh province, there was comrade Pham Duc An, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
With the largest area of marine aquaculture in the province, Van Don is the locality that suffered the most damage in the aquaculture sector due to the impact of storm No. 3 in September 2024.
Immediately after the storm, Quang Ninh province and Van Don district promptly implemented support policies for those affected; especially speeding up the progress of sea delivery, creating conditions for cooperatives and enterprises to soon stabilize production.
Along with the effective support policies implemented by local authorities, businesses, cooperatives, and farming households have also made efforts to overcome difficulties to restore production. Up to now, over 5,400 hectares of oyster rafts have been restored, the seeding area has reached over 2,600 hectares, an increase compared to the time before the storm; 6,400 fish cages and rafts have been restored.
Visiting and inspecting the aquaculture activities at Trung Nam Aquatic Products Cooperative and Bai Tu Long Fishing Village Cooperative, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the efforts of the cooperatives in overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and quickly restoring production. At the same time, he encouraged the cooperatives to pay more attention to investing in converting farming technology towards a more modern and sustainable direction; and to pay attention to environmental protection so that they can combine farming with tourism development.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that in order to sustainably develop the marine aquaculture industry in the coming time, in addition to the efforts of cooperatives and enterprises, support policies from state management agencies also need to be implemented more effectively. In particular, regarding the assignment of sea areas, on the basis of the approved National Marine Spatial Planning and Provincial Planning, relevant ministries and branches need to study and propose to simplify some current administrative procedures on sea area assignment. At the same time, decentralization to local authorities is needed to ensure that procedures for assigning sea areas are implemented more effectively at the local level. Thereby, creating conditions for all enterprises, cooperatives, and aquaculture households at sea to be assigned sea areas in accordance with regulations to stabilize production.
On the local side, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that it is necessary to exploit more effectively the infrastructure system serving the development of the aquaculture sector that has been invested. At the same time, coordinate with ministries and branches to propose support mechanisms, encourage aquaculture enterprises and cooperatives to participate in agricultural insurance; support the building of brands as well as environmental databases for each farming area; encourage enterprises to invest in preservation and deep processing projects. From there, gradually form a synchronous production and processing chain in the aquaculture sector, contributing to increasing the economic value of this sector.
Along with that, the locality must continue to create conditions for a stronger transformation of the fisheries sector towards reducing fishing and increasing farming. This is also one of the fundamental and long-term solutions. Thereby, bringing the marine aquaculture industry to truly achieve more sustainable development steps, contributing to the overall development of the country.
