Chaos, light pollution, noise
Mr. Ha Phuong, a businessman in the culinary industry in Bali (Indonesia), visited Bui Vien Western street in mid-May and felt "dizzy".
"My feeling when coming to Bui Vien is that it is a chaotic space, with excessive noise and light pollution. I fully support the city in building an entertainment area. It's okay to have a little fun, but it must be managed more strictly," Mr. Phuong shared.
"Dance floor" on Bui Vien Western street
Mr. Phuong commented that many bars have "sexy girls pole dancing" which adds a bit of "color to the atmosphere of Bui Vien walking street". However, entertainment shows "not for children" need to be organized more discreetly because the walking street is now for everyone.
"If not managed and loosened, Bui Vien walking street will become more complicated, turning this place into a destination for adults, not suitable as an entertainment space for all audiences and all ages of tourists as it has always aimed for," Mr. Ha Phuong worries.
Being present in the Western street on a weekend night, from 8-9 o'clock onwards, the atmosphere on Bui Vien street becomes strange. At first, the music is at its loudest, but then girls and boys appear in the most skimpy outfits, stepping onto a small stage placed right in front. All of them are extremely sexy, dancing the most provocative dances. Tables and chairs also spill out, occupying the entire street, there is almost no pedestrian walkway, plus the situation of employees inviting and soliciting tourists into the shop has made the walking street chaotic.
Mr. Hoang Viet Hung, a tourist from Germany who returned to Vietnam, said: "The current Western street of Bui Vien is quite similar to Soi Cowboy in Phuket, the small coastal roads in Pattaya or Patong in Bangkok, although the scale of these streets in Thailand is much larger. In general, I am quite surprised because Bui Vien has changed, and the entertainment is more 'dizzying' than before."

What to do to help Bui Vien escape the drinking street model?
Talking to Thanh Nien , tourism expert Nguyen Duc Chi said: Bui Vien walking street is chaotic, has a "new point" compared to other walking streets in the country which is sexy dancing. But in reality, since its inception, Bui Vien walking street has not escaped the model of a drinking street due to its history, infrastructure conditions, planning, and management. "The street is part of the night economy , but to become a true night tourism product, it requires investment of money, brand, human resources, and the community there must also change the way it does business. If Bui Vien walking street continues to become a drinking street, sexy dancing and entertainment, revenue will also increase, but the social consequences will be greater. Is it possible to protect young Vietnamese people and only reserve the area for foreigners? Certainly not," Mr. Chi analyzed.

According to Mr. Chi, security and order should be strictly managed to prevent new types of social evils from arising. At the same time, the surrounding roads should be re-planned into shopping, dining, and supporting tourism services such as spas, health care, medical services, restaurants, etc. When realizing that customer needs have changed, the people there will change their business direction. As for turning it into a drinking and dancing city, it must be consistent with the orientation and social model.
Laughing gas is a regular presence on Bui Vien Western street.
Mr. Chi cited that in the world, there are many famous walking streets that are planned to become high-class streets. For example, Mykonos, a coastal city in Greece, is a destination that is flooded with European tourists. The neighborhoods are all built as walking streets with small alleys connecting each other, in which there are dense restaurants and high-class shopping stores. In this neighborhood, tourists cannot see sexy dance bars because they are all located inside discreetly. Tourists coming here, of course, include young people who "party hard", but there are also families with children, the elderly...
"Bui Vien walking street should be shaped into a street where any tourist can come here to visit and have fun. As it is now, family groups certainly do not bring their children here, even Western tourists have a more open view," said Mr. Hung.

What do international tourists say about Bui Vien Western Street?
-This street is very busy, very noisy and the bar staff compete with customers with very loud music, trying to lure you in. If you like to party then this place is probably suitable, although more expensive than other places. Lots of drinks and quite a few people inhaling laughing gas so definitely not a place for children ( Scoutts, UK ).
-The neon lights are blinding but it pales in comparison to the horrible, ear-piercing music from every bar filled with girls dancing on platforms outside the door, staff constantly touching you and trying to pull you into that bar ( Luca K, Australia ).
