(To Quoc) - A series of film screenings organized by the Vietnam Film Institute to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024), classic films of Vietnamese cinema such as The White Flower River, Sleepwalking Woman, and Anonymous Eucalyptus Tree were still enthusiastically received by the audience.
The auditorium was packed with audiences watching the movie The Sleepwalking Woman.
Sharing his feelings about the film with To Quoc newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Duc Nhu (78 years old, Ba Dinh) said: The film is really excellent, realistically and vividly recreating the image of the Truong Son battlefield during the difficult war period. How much loss, suffering, and noble sacrifice of the soldiers and the people in the rear were brought to film, shown and enthusiastically received by the audience like this, making former soldiers like us feel an indescribable emotion.
The historical stories contain painful memories that make the audience unable to hold back their tears. Mr. Nguyen Thang, a veteran, when watching the film and remembering his old comrades, he choked up and shared: For peace and independence, we put on our soldier uniforms together when we were very young, and together rushed to the battlefield, but when we returned, not all of us were there. The film reminded me of an extremely fierce period in my memory. My comrades also had families and lovers waiting for them, but unfortunately they sacrificed themselves under the enemy's guns, bombs and stray bullets.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Nhu and his wife went to the movies.
Ms. Long Giang (64 years old) shared: "Film screening activities like this of the Film Institute are truly meaningful. Not only is it an anniversary, but it also gives the public the opportunity to enjoy quality Vietnamese cinema. I feel like I'm back in the 80s and 90s, when movies were still a luxury for many families. Free film screenings at that time were endless joy, and now, that nostalgic feeling comes back, living in me once again."
Ms. Long Giang shared that she was very impressed with the movie The Sleepwalking Woman. "As a woman, I deeply feel the pain and great loss that the characters in the movie have to go through, both physical and mental pain, which makes me feel extremely respectful and grateful for the great sacrifices of mothers, wives, and female soldiers, who have left us a prosperous and happy life" - Ms. Long Giang said.

Not only attracting older audiences, many young people also took the time to watch this screening at the Vietnam Film Institute. Hoai Linh (21 years old, student at Hanoi University of Culture) expressed: I am a person who is very interested in historical films, but most of them I only watch on the small screen. There are films that I really want to watch to learn about the history of the country, learn about the filmmaking and editing methods of previous generations of filmmakers, so when I heard that the Film Institute would re-screen films like this, I did not hesitate to come and watch them even though I had to stand because there were no more seats.
Director Nguyen Thanh Van's film scores points with its emotional camera angles.
"I think that every film is unique in its time, it is the rustic, nostalgic but still full of artistic value such as image quality, camera angles, sound, music that make the film bring genuine emotions that modern, high-tech filmmaking methods like today cannot express." - Hoai Linh shared more./.
