Identifying economic development as a lever to successfully build a model new rural area, Phu Loc commune (Hau Loc) always attaches importance to developing rural industries and developing agriculture in a sustainable direction. Thanks to that, from a purely agricultural commune with a low starting point, Phu Loc commune is now the leading locality of the district in building new rural areas.

Economic development is the lever for Phu Loc to build a model new countryside. People of Phu Loc commune grow watermelon on fertile land.

Visiting the model garden of Ms. Cao Thi Cam's family in Phu Da village, we felt the investment and dedication of the owner. Ms. Cam said: “My family has nearly 8,000m2 of agricultural land and mixed gardens, mainly growing some traditional vegetables, with insignificant income. Since 2016, when Phu Loc commune mobilized people to renovate mixed gardens to build model gardens to complete the criteria of household gardens in building advanced new-style rural communes and model new-style rural areas, my family registered to participate. I have removed mixed plants, consolidated the land close to the house into a spacious production area, creating an airy environment for growing crops of high economic value. On this area, I grow green-skinned grapefruit, Dien grapefruit and Canh Duong oranges. Because the grapefruit trees are planted more sparsely than usual and the branches and leaves are trimmed, the land under the tree can still be used to grow other crops, ensuring four crops a year: potatoes - watermelon - soybeans, vegetables - autumn-winter peanuts, so income is generated year-round. In addition, my family also raises dozens of wild pigs, cows and digs ponds to raise fish. The family's comprehensive farm economic model currently brings in a profit of nearly 400 million VND per year."

In the same commune, Mr. Hoang Thanh Ha's family developed a model of linking broiler farming. In 2019, the commune created conditions for his family to contract 1.5 hectares of land. "On this area, I invested in building 3 chicken farms with a scale of 40,000 broiler chickens and Japan Co., Ltd. is the unit that consumes the products. Due to large-scale farming, in addition to investing in automatic feeding and drinking troughs, exhaust fans, etc., I also use biological bedding and spray deodorizing and disinfecting chemicals every month. Thanks to that, the barn environment is always guaranteed, the chickens are less susceptible to diseases, grow well, and the family sells 3 batches of chickens each year. With the company's purchase price of 52,000 VND/kg, after excluding expenses, after more than 100 days of raising, my family has an income of about 100 million VND/batch" - Mr. Ha shared.

In addition to encouraging the development of household economy, Phu Loc commune has actively transformed the structure of crops, seasons, land accumulation and concentration to build many production linkage models according to the commodity chain. Typically, such as: The linkage model with Dong Giao Food Export Joint Stock Company (Ninh Binh) to grow crops such as sweet corn, soybeans, vegetables and spinach, on an area of 130 hectares. This linkage model has contributed to increasing the income value to 350 million VND/ha/year. In addition to introducing commercial crop varieties into cultivation, the application of synchronous mechanization, innovation, reorganization of production, and active application of scientific and technical advances to reduce investment costs and increase economic efficiency are highly appreciated by the people. Thanks to that, the current income value per hectare of cultivated land in Phu Loc commune reaches 230 million VND/ha/year.

In addition to agricultural production development, Phu Loc attaches importance to industrial development, small-scale industry, rural occupations and enterprise development. Currently, the commune has 24 enterprises and 186 individual production and business households operating effectively, contributing to job creation and income improvement for thousands of local workers.

Mr. Le Hai Van, Vice Chairman of Phu Loc Commune People's Committee, said: Thanks to actively implementing economic restructuring in agricultural production, focusing on developing diverse rural industries, people's lives in the commune have been improved. Currently, the average income per capita of people in the commune reaches 64 million VND/year, the poor households have decreased to 0.51%.

Life is gradually getting better, local people have more resources to contribute to infrastructure construction as well as new rural criteria. Up to this point, Phu Loc commune has mobilized total resources to build new rural model criteria with an amount of 504 billion VND, striving to achieve new rural model standards in 2023.
