(Fatherland) - On October 25, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam coordinated with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Nam to organize a workshop on "Tourism development associated with biodiversity conservation - Quang Nam 2024".
Attending the workshop were delegates representing domestic and international organizations, representatives of management boards of tourist areas and national parks in localities across the country.
The workshop is an opportunity for delegates to exchange, discuss and share information to advise competent authorities to provide orientations and policies to build new tourism products suitable to the natural characteristics of the locality.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam, Van Ba Son, said that Quang Nam province has an important tourism position, located in the center of the Central Vietnam tourism route with many types of tourism bearing the unique characteristics of Quang Nam land based on the richness of the local cultural heritage system.
However, facing many impacts that can affect the sustainable development of tourism, including the impact on the natural environment and heritage environment, Quang Nam province has issued many important resolutions on tourism development, with the viewpoint of "preservation for development, development for preservation" and building a set of Green Tourism Criteria. At the same time, identifying one of the key tasks in tourism development is to focus on developing sea and island tourism products, cultural tourism, eco-tourism, community tourism with high attractiveness and competitiveness, ensuring the principle of sustainable tourism development, according to strategies, planning, plans, with focus and key points. Tourism development is associated with preserving and promoting the value of national cultural heritage, natural resources, exploiting the advantages of each locality and forming clusters of interconnected tourist destinations to create unique and distinctive tourism products of Quang Nam.

"With that perspective, Quang Nam tourism industry has initially built the brand and image of "Quang Nam - Green tourism destination", which has been highly appreciated by many domestic and foreign organizations, many domestic localities have come to visit, learn and share experiences. From efforts to improve the tourism environment in a sustainable direction, build products based on exploiting unique cultural values, proactively develop products in a natural direction, prioritize environmentally friendly tourism products...", Mr. Son said.
According to Mr. Son, biodiversity is very important for tourism because a healthy environment is a key factor for the competitiveness of the tourism industry. Coastlines, mountains, rivers and forests are the main attractions for tourists around the world. Biodiversity lies at the heart of nature-based tourism products – such as wildlife watching, scuba diving or tourism in protected areas. Tourism connects people with nature, and it can promote responsibility for conservation and environmental protection if done sustainably.
Biodiversity is an important resource for the development of sustainable ecotourism. In turn, sustainable tourism activities contribute to the preservation and conservation of ecosystem service values, raising awareness of conservation, helping to protect human living environments, ensuring harmony in the living environments of animals and plants. At the same time, sustainable tourism helps to exploit resources scientifically, thereby providing socio-economic benefits and services to local communities, providing jobs, improving livelihoods and contributing to poverty reduction.

At the workshop, delegates shared experiences and effective models of localities and organizations in developing tourism based on nature and biodiversity; proposals for Quang Nam tourism. Along with that are the bottlenecks that need to be removed in developing tourism based on biodiversity; the development of policies and plans to manage and develop sustainable ecotourism. Solutions to integrate biodiversity conservation, livelihood transformation and sustainable tourism for socio-economic development; mobilizing community participation in activities to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity, develop ecotourism models, sustainable tourism based on nature.
