On December 11, in Hanoi, the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities held a meeting to share the results of the project "Collecting information and data on households of people with disabilities (PWDs) and infrastructure serving natural disaster prevention and control with accessibility for PWDs in Hanoi".
594 data points collected
Speaking at the program, Ms. Do Thi Huyen, President of the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities, said that in recent years the association has implemented many activities to support people with disabilities, but climate change activities are still limited.
Ms. Huyen said that developing this database in disaster prevention will support people with disabilities in a timely manner.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Chairman of the Association of People with Disabilities in My Duc district, said that the project has approached and collected information from many families with disabled people in the three communes of Hop Tien, An Tien, Hung Tien and 9 other communes of My Duc district.

The information collection teams have worked with a high sense of responsibility, overcoming many difficulties to complete the task. Up to now, the team has collected information exceeding the target compared to the plan, contributing significantly to the success of the project.
“We consider this a valuable opportunity to draw experiences and lessons, in order to improve and enhance the quality of activities to support people with disabilities in My Duc district in the future,” he said.
Mr. Pham Quang Khoat, Vice President of the Association, Project Manager said that the project was implemented from July 15 to December 15, 2024. The results collected 594 clean data points.
Mr. Khoat hopes that the Swiss Embassy will continue to sponsor the Association in phase 2 of the project: Developing software for the entire My Duc district and the entire city of Hanoi and phase 3 applying membership management software to best support the disabled.
Effective tool for disaster prevention
Mr. Aldo De Luca, Counselor, Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam said that this is a meaningful project because it meets the practical needs of society and is an effective tool for disaster prevention, especially for people with disabilities.
The Deputy Ambassador said that prevention not only helps to respond to disasters but also helps to identify those in need of attention in disasters. The project not only meets the practical needs of society but is also highly innovative in using modern digital technology to collect data.
“The project has been successful and can be completely implemented in other areas of Hanoi and other provinces across the country,” the Deputy Ambassador shared.

To promote the value of GPS data for the management of associations and disaster prevention, Ms. Do Thi Hong Nhung - Consultant of the Center for Policy and Technique of Disaster Prevention (DMPTC) made the following recommendations: Collect additional data on households of people with disabilities and civil works and economic works combined with disaster prevention in communes and districts in Hanoi.
Build, develop or upgrade tools to support the Association's work based on integrating data on information about people with disabilities on GPS database.
Build and develop support tools to provide early warning information to people with disabilities and provide information on households with disabilities that need early evacuation with priority to the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the commune, district, and city.
