On the afternoon of September 20, the People's Court of Da Nang City concluded the first instance trial of a defendant who trafficked drugs and had reckless behavior, repeatedly challenging the authorities.
The People's Court sentenced defendant Cao Minh Thuc (34 years old, residing in Group 19, Hoa Hiep Bac Ward) to 17 years in prison, and Ho Phuoc Nhan (29 years old, residing on Pham Dinh Ho Street, Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City) to 3 years in prison, both for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
According to the indictment, Thuc and Nhan both have bad personal records, many criminal records, were sent to compulsory drug rehabilitation for 1 year, and were punished many times for hooliganism and insulting law enforcement officers.
Thuc (left) and Nhan receive their sentence.
In this drug ring, Thuc played the role of mastermind, an arrogant subject who often challenged the investigating force.
For example, even during the period of social distancing due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Thuc still illegally used drugs and drove on the street without wearing a helmet.
Stopped by the anti-epidemic force, Thuc cursed and insulted the police. In November 2022, Thuc contacted and bought nearly 55 grams of crystal meth from Tien (unknown origin) for 32 million VND. The two transacted at Tu Cau bridge, Dien Ban town, Quang Nam. Thuc rented a car to take him to the meeting point, then took the drugs home to hide.
On the morning of March 20, Nhan called Thuc and asked to buy a package of drugs for 300,000 VND. Nhan rode his motorbike to Thuc's house to receive the crystal meth and brought it home, but before he could "break the drug", he was caught red-handed.
On the same day, based on Nhan's testimony, the police arrested Thuc, searched his house, and seized the remaining drugs, nearly 53 grams of crystal meth.
