In the 2018 general education program, general schools can choose to teach ethnic minority languages, including Hmong. There are also textbooks for teaching Hmong in schools (from grades 1 to 5).
However, up to now, there is still no training program for Hmong language teachers nationwide.
With the characteristic of being a teacher training school located in a mountainous province with a large population of H'Mong ethnic people, Thai Nguyen University Branch in Ha Giang has presided over and built a code to open a H'Mong language teacher training program and was licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training in July 2024.
Dr. Luc Quang Tan, Director of Thai Nguyen University Branch in Ha Giang, said that after graduating from the Hmong language pedagogy major, students will have many job opportunities such as teaching Hmong language in schools. Besides, they can work in state agencies in areas with a large Hmong population. They can work in the fields of tourism and research on ethnic minority culture.
This year, the branch's enrollment target is 50 students, the entrance score based on the 2024 national high school graduation exam score is 25.09 points.
In addition to the Hmong language major, this year Thai Nguyen University Branch in Ha Giang also opened a new major, Chinese language.
Thus, up to now, after more than 1 year of establishment, the Branch has 5 licensed training majors: preschool education university, primary education university, Hmong language pedagogy university, Chinese language and preschool education college.
Up to now, the branch has enrolled 100% of its target, expected to start school from August 26 to 27.
In addition, the branch also cooperates with member schools of Thai Nguyen University to set up classes in Ha Giang for some majors such as animal husbandry-veterinary medicine; finance-accounting; law; business administration.
