Previously, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Thua Thien-Hue Province Police discovered the Facebook group "Surrogacy and finding surrogates, egg donations in Saigon - Hue - Hanoi" with a series of posts related to surrogacy services and organ trafficking nationwide.

Realizing the complexity of the case, the Board of Directors of Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Police Department directed the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention to urgently coordinate with professional units to verify and investigate.

After collecting evidence, the police identified the group of suspects as three people: Truong Thi Thuy Trinh (30 years old, residing in Binh Thuan), Tran Tuan Anh (31 years old, residing in Ha Nam) and Tran Viet Thanh (26 years old, residing in Bac Kan). All three rented an apartment in An Dong Ward (Hue City, Thua Thien-Hue) to "practice their profession".

This group continuously posts advertisements in online groups to reach people in need, contact and discuss issues with infertile families. Each surrogacy will cost 450 - 600 million VND, egg donation is about 25 million VND, kidney transplant costs about 900 million VND to 1.4 billion VND. Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Police determined that Trinh and Thanh had organized surrogacy for many individuals nationwide. In Thua Thien-Hue, on May 29, Trinh organized a successful surrogacy case, the surrogate mother gave birth to a baby boy at Hue Central Hospital with a contract agreement of 200 million VND.

At the time of being discovered by the police, Trinh was also renting an apartment in Xuan Phu apartment complex, Xuan Phu ward (Hue city) to take care of two other pregnant women.

Regarding the kidney trading activities in Thua Thien-Hue, the provincial police determined that Anh and Thanh organized them. Since 2018, Anh went to Hue Central Hospital, entered the kidney department to look for patients in need of kidney transplants, left his phone number and advertised the price of a kidney from 800 million VND to 1.3 billion VND. In which, Thanh played the role of intermediary.

For each successful kidney sale, Anh pays Thanh from 100 to 110 million VND. From 2018 to now, Anh has organized 8 kidney transplants at Hue Central Hospital, of which 4 were successful.

In connection with this case, Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Police also discovered two more suspects: Nguyen Thi Thu Ha (40 years old, residing in Quang Binh) and Nguyen Van Ninh (25 years old, residing in Soc Trang).

Specifically, since July 2020, Ha and Ninh have lived together as husband and wife in a house on Ba Trieu Street (Hue City), regularly going to Hue Central Hospital to find people in need of kidney transplants to broker kidney buying and selling and transplanting.

Each kidney transplant costs from 900 million VND to 1.3 billion VND. Of which, the kidney donor receives 450 million VND; costs related to medical examination and treatment, surgery, feeding, etc. are about 450 million VND. Ha and Ninh earn about 100 million VND for each successful kidney transplant brokerage.

From 2020 to present, Ha has brokered about 18 cases, including 3 successful kidney transplant surgeries; Ninh has successfully brokered 5 kidney transplants and assisted Ha in successfully brokering 1 case.

The Investigation Agency of Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Police has issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Truong Thi Thuy Trinh and Tran Viet Thanh for the crime of "commercial surrogacy". At the same time, prosecuted the defendants Tran Tuan Anh, Tran Viet Thanh, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, and Nguyen Van Ninh for the crime of "buying, selling, appropriating human tissues or body parts".
