A spokesman for the Pakistan Navy said that its ships are constantly patrolling the Arabian Sea to ensure maritime security. Islamabad also monitors the airspace over trade routes to ensure the safety of Pakistani and international merchant ships.

“The Pakistan Navy is fully aware of its responsibility to maintain peace and maritime order in the region,” the spokesman said.

Earlier in the day, the Indian Navy said its commandos rescued a ship in the Arabian Sea after receiving a distress call about pirates, the latest attack on commercial vessels in the region.

Last month, the Indian Navy deployed several warships to the Arabian Sea to “maintain deterrence” after a series of recent attacks on shipping, including a drone strike near the Indian coast that the US blamed on Iran.

The incident comes at a time when many ships have diverted from the Red Sea, where Yemen's Houthi forces have carried out drone and missile attacks in a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
